Energy Weapons "Meltdown" Suggestion,

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:59 am

So, I started a new energy weapons character, and just got to level 16. I take the meltdown perk because I am making the"perfect" pure energy weapons character, and figure the AOE damage would be great. However i was slightly dissapointed to see that the effect (although cool) for Meltdown was the same on every gun. Instead of adding a bright green glow to every weapon, regardless of firing mode or colour of energy, I think it would be really cool to see unique effects for each weapon, although honestly just making the effect the same colour as the regular firing mode would satisfy me. Things like the blue beam on the orange Tesla Beaton Cannon are somewhat annoying and could be very easily fixed as well.

On a side note, to all of those wondering weather energy weapons characters are worth it, I can very saftely say: No doubt. I am a very experienced Fallout Player and have got 3 level 30's in NV, A standard guns/sneak char, pure melee and unarmed, and a juggernaut character with maximum DT and a user of guns like the Avenger and AMR. All 3 are extremely powerful, but none of theme could kill an alpha male deathclaw at level 16 with 1 shot on hard difficulty. I was able to accomplish this with the YCS, using max charge rounds and a sneak attack.

So once again to all those wondering if E weps are worth it, the answer is yes. The main idea is to max out perception and luck and choosing the right perks.

I agree, now that i think about it

The Meltdown explosion should be based on the color of the weapon's attack

So weapons that fire green plasma blow up like they do now, and weapons that fire red lasers would do a red version. the green laser would do green explosions. the Tesla Cannon would be blue

Pulse guns should do a small pulse explosion too :3

And yea, the YCS and the Tesla Beaton would be better with orange effects, and that begs the question: Why it orange>blue?

Ya I know, like I said unique effects would be cool but the same colour? That shoulda just been common sense.

Color change would be neat, but I am happy as it is too. Mostly I'm just pleased to read comments from other people who enjoy Meltdown. I was nervous about taking it because so many people complain about it around here, but its benefits (decimating groups, being totally radical) definitely outweigh its drawbacks (not letting enemies get too close before killing them).

Haven't got the perk yet but does that mean my lasers will turn green ???

Don't like that image at all, seen it on that proto-type gun and it's such an ugly, thick, green beam. If it's like that then no thanks.

I was really looking forward to having more impact on massed enemies with my pretty red laser beams :( I was imagining an awesome heat wave rippling effect when ever someone melted down and enemies near by bursting into flames.

It's quite hardwork to implement for a perk effect that not everyones going to use.

You'll need to run a script if not multipules for every weapon type, you'll have to make the effects and their contributing factors and work on getting it all to work out.
Would it be good yes I would like it, but I think the simplest thing was just to leave one effect in, and Obsidian used as many assets as possible from FO3 to save workload.
By the looks of it they just ran with the plasma grenade explosion anim and sound, which would require all gameplay benefits and not require tweaking the engine at all.

@ Mike C No your lasers stay the same, the explosion caused when killing someone with a EW, as mentioned is the plasma grenade detonation effect.

cool, yeah just got this perk and have to say I'm glad my lasers are still red :D

What you say makes sense Madocmayhem but despite that I'm feeling like they could of made this a plasma only perk that's like the counter part to laser commander. Makes more sense, I mean lasers to surgically slice through enemies and plasma the molten ball of death that would be the more likely to cause things to explode.
