Sandbox Editor 3 is awesome - here's how I made it work

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:17 am

Since the editor was released today, this site has been down!

I've seen a few people complaining that it doesn't work, and here's why:

You need 64bit os
Crysis has to be correctly installed.

The issues with, "you need Crysis 2 and patched to 1.9" is because of a registry issue. I installed Crysis 2 months ago, and have since moved it's directory, Windows no longer knows that Crysis 2 is installed, so when I run the Editor install, windows tells it "no Crysis2" so the editor says it cannot install. No worries, I put the disc in, said "custom install" selected my current crysis2 directory, and it installed in 20 seconds, and then the editor installed. No key bindings were changed, all saved games still work, and internet works fine.

The editor is awesome, I've made a parkour level! Haha, just jumping from frame to frame to box to ledge etc... open up some of the actual levels in the game, and explore. My favorite thing to do is simply jump around like a monkey.

It runs awesome, supports DX11, and the in-game mode works fine too.

I'm happy as hell! Trouble is, going between Maya and this.. my damned controls are all messed up in my head "ALT+Click" in Maya, and RIGHT click in Sandbox, ick.

NOW to figure out how to IMPORT from Maya!

Hope you guys don't have any other issues, I'm going to try to post this continually until it actually goes through! This message has been in my clipboard for a couple hours now as I keep hitting "submit"

Hey krallopian, my first time messing with the editor and the first time using an engine from the CryEngine family. Can you give me any tips on making something 'basic'. No prior experience but have the time and will power to learn through trial and error :D.

I also edited a certain registry file, cant remember which, but it fixed the start up issue where you get an error box.

Actually, I haven't made a level from scratch, what I did was open up a level from the game, and then started copying items, and moving them around, making my own structures.

This should help you though:

In 3D programs you always SELECT, MOVE, ROTATE, RESIZE things. The numbers on your keyboard across the top (not the numpad, but above the letters) are short cuts for this in the editor.

1.) Select and Move
2.) Select and Rotate
3.) Select and Scale (resize)
4.) Select

So press 4 to select something, then press 2 to bring up the "move" function, try it... then rotate, then resize. CTRL+C automatically duplicates what ever you have selected.

Open a level, duplicate things, resize then, position them and there's your first attempt! Once you're comfortable with those basic functions, you'll be on your way! There are things like, "alien ship gets shot at, flies through a building, explodes, shakes camera, knocks you on your feet" that are a little more involved than that, but it's truly not that difficult once you figure it out. YouTube SANDBOX2 tutorials, they apply this as well! Look up how to make a jeep follow a path.

Good luck! =)

BTW to open a level, they are located in your: drive:\programfiles\electronicarts\crytek\crysis2\gamecrysis2\levels\ anything here. So click on "CityHall" and then click on "CityHall.cry" that's the level file!

lol...who uses a 32bit OS still.... I made it work by double clicking the exe....its really similar to SB2. If you can use SB2 then moving to 3 should not be a problem. Most of the tutorials for 2 work inside of 3 barring the aesthetic changes.
