Can't enable DX11

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:26 am

sorry to be a pain ppl, there is probably an obvious or easy solution, and i can't see it.

so, I'm running crysis 2 on a 64bit pc, with a pair of Nvidia Geforce 285m's running in SLI, (DX11 is installed, and works correctly).

but in the in game options, the "enable DX11" option is greyed out (stuck on dissabled).

is there any way to fix this, or am i missing something?

285m physically doesn't support directx 11, its a dx10 or dx10.1 gpu.

the 285 is a dx10 part. Crytek did not include the dx10 fallback rendering path. Per microsoft - any card that can run dx10 can run dx11 as well, just with certain features disabled (like tessellation). Unless Crytek adds that rendering fallback path in its a no go. I can't blame them though, its extra work for no real benefit. dx9 and 10 are so close its practically the same API and with 11's major feature being direct compute and tessellation. If your card cant do tessellation then supporting anything above 9 is a waste of effort. sorry.

The thing i don't get is that my pc came shipped with DX11 already installed on it.
and in the dxdiag it doesn't show anything wrong, or that any of the dx11 features being dissabled.

you pc's runtime is directx which is a bunch of dlls whose version is dx11 also including previous version.

the fact is your pc is able to do dx11 computation in software way(warp or ref mode but hal mode), that's what your sys info mean. unfortunately crysis 2 won't allow software mode because software rendering is extremely slow even to freeze you system.
