Does anyone else find the guilds to be underwhelming?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:11 am

I've finished The Thieve's Guild, The Companions, The Dark Brotherhood and the College of Winterhold, and I hate to say it, but I was a little disappointed by them. None of them had very many memorable moments, and they were way too short. The last mission in the Thieve's Guild in Oblivion alone was more interesting that all of these guilds in Skyrim combined. I didn't expect them to top that, but I did hope for something a little better. I guess it doesn't help that characters in this game, for the most part, show no emotion at all. Anyone else agree?

As far as I'm concerned, this game will never beat Fallout New Vegas' package.

Agreed. They also don't change much of anything in the world which is seriously disappointing.

They could have done so much with the guilds and how they affected the world based on what you did in the guild.

But alas, all that happens is you get items and NPCs mentioning what x guild did but that's about it.

Very. Game is hollow. Instead of improving on the guilds from before, they got worse and become nothing but a quest line. Bad part is there is no recognition in the game world regarding your guild and guild status

I was NO fan of Oblivion, but I think the guild quests were way better in that game than Skyrim.

The MQ in Skyrim is so much better and Dragons >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Oblivion gates though. So I forgive the game. I hope mods and DLC will give us some good guild quests.

Oh and the civil war quests had so much potential but was a bit of a let down. It needed more politics and sabotage / espionage and much less "go kill everyone in this fort pretty much singlehandedly".

I loved the Dark brotherhood and the thieves guild, but i felt that they could have done so much more with the companions, It was utterly disappointing, i hated being forced into the main quest when all i wanted was some story driven side quests, exploring each of the companions members. They could have fleshed out the main story so much more, I can think of several possible story lines. :(

I don't have any issues with them. They all have pretty nice story lines and the DB and Thieves' Guild give you so many extra randomly generated quests that I'm finding it hard to stay on course with the main lines.

Skyrim is like a very amazing mod for Oblivion that I paid 60 dollars for. Unfortunately it isn't compatible with anything remotely related to a RPG, and I can't get my money back.

No ranks are a huge problem. I don't know why they didn't just keep in the promotion/progression system guilds have always had unlocking new and exciting features with more difficult and grand quests as you progress the ranks.

yeah, i was a bit disappointed when i became the arch mage after like 7 quests considering i have to do like 40 in oblivion. shouldn't have come as a surprise though, they all seem pretty stupid there. not sure how it is at the other guilds but i think its safe to say oblivion's were better.

Guilds fail in Skyrim. I both MW and OB it made you proud of being a fighters guild member. And the questline in Oblivion with the Blackwood Co and their hist tree was just great.

Companions are boring and the questline was boring. Not once did I feel like a mercenary.

I liked them but they were a bit too short for what they accomplish. New guy to archmage in just a few quests? New guy to guild leader in just a few quests? I liked the length of the quests in Oblivion, with the content of the quests in Skyrim. One exception, the final Thieves Guild quest in Oblivion was way beyond epic (granted, Skyrim's is pretty cool too, it just doesn't come close).

This was also a huge gripe I had. Even after you complete the entire guild quest line, the guards will still say, "So, you're the new member of the companions?"

That's quite an understatement there buddy. Then again, the guild members don't even say anything about it.

I've completed the Companions, the Imperial, and most of the Thieves Guild questlines and yes, they leave MUCH to be desired. The Civil War line is a joke considering all of its initial potential. From what I've seen so far, Oblivion's stories were much more memorable and the writing a lot better. It's a shame Bethesda didn't take a note from Obsidian's work with New Vegas when writing quests for Skyrim.

The Stormcloak quest line was the best in the game, in my opinion.

Hopefully mods and DLC will improve this. The concepts were great, there is a ton of potential. But sadly it didn't amount to much in the end.

The Arch Mage thing is kind of a joke, only about 2 of the members seem to acknowledge that I'm Arch Mage at all. And one of those is an angry ogre guarding the library basically saying he's not treating me any differently because I'm Arch Mage. Um...yeah no sh*t neither is anyone else in the game. :banghead:

Only finished college but yes, very disappointed.

*spoiler*
Took about 4 hours and I went straight to archmage. At the end I was left very confused and couldnt believe it ended like that. Plain bad and so much wasted potential. There shouldve been more side missions and the psijics and the history and effects of the eye wouldve needed much more concentration. I couldve thought a million ways to make it many times longer and more interesting. I hear the other guilds are pretty much the same.
*spoiler*

Havent finished civil war yet but i hear its short and disappointing too.

I dont understand why bethesda wastes all the potential the guilds have. They could make long and interesting guest lines considering all the characters and history that are involved. Now they feel shallow and are ridiculously short.

I liked Oblivion's guild quests more.

The Dark Brotherhood here had a couple good moments, so did the Thieves guild.
The Companions disappointed me a bit, didn't finish the mage college yet.

Oblivion Guilds > Skyrim Guilds, without a doubt.

Morrowind guilds > Oblivion guilds > Skyrim guilds

Oblivions guilds felt shallow and didnt have enough concentration on characters, history and such but at least they werent as short as Skyrims.

Yeah, I've only finished the thieves guild, and while there are a ton of random quests, there weren't very many main quests in the guild. From what I hear, the rest are just as short ::sadface::

I agree. I found the Companions and College guild content and their respective plots weak. The plots end abruptly and in pretty much the same manner. You have hardly done anything and story is over.

The Thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood are a little better but still seem shallow compared to previous TES games. Oblivion's guilds felt more fleshed out. Can't wait for some well made fan content.

I must admit, I finished the collage and found myself wonder, "Is that it?"

It was way too short, I didn't have a problem with content, just length.

Haven't tried DB or thieves, I'm playing a goody-two-shoes ATM.

And... well... I'm stuck at a glitch on the companions, just after going to the glenmori cave... But the event there was far too soon and I guess I'm not far away from just compleating it anyway,,
