Crysis 2 v1.9 Desktop Crash SP/MP

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:16 pm

Hello all!
After installing the v1.9, DX11, Hi Rez, I have a desktop crash. The game is freezing (not responding) and it goes in windowed mode and then at desktop.

My specs:

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Asus P5K Premium Wifi
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 B3 (OCed to 3.4)
Gainward Geforce GTX 560Ti GS 1GB
4GB OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-READY EDITION
WD Raptor 150GB
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W

Anyone has similar problems?

Same problem. It only happens when i overclock my GPU. I have to reset to factory and up the voltage then it helps.
Hoping Crytek fixes this because i need to overclock for better performance in MP.

Do you have to go in and out of fullscreen to set you native resolution? Because that is happening to me every time i start the game.

is a problem for everyone, me for example, the GPU is factory overclocked, and I have no intention of changing anything, Crytek and nvidia, I have to do something, otherwise, simply step in and play something else.

Make sure your not overclocking your GPU and remove the HighRez Pack for now (almost no point in running it really). Make sure your are running the latest driver release from Nvidia.

Does the game crash right away or will it play for a bit and then take a dive? Is there a reference to any kind of crash log? Does it freeze after doing something specific in game (like changing graphics settings or enabling SSAO?). It sounds like a graphics driver issue honestly. If you are running a factory overclocked card you might have to par it back some to get things stable.

A general note: If you are using overclocking to milk extra performance our of your GPU please make sure that you also have manual control of the cooling fan- keep it at 100% while playing. GPU's are tightly strung hardware and the stress of heavy gaming+heat+running faster than intended can lead to stability issues. Also, if you have overclocked your graphics card memory please return it to stock. GDDR4,5 is absolute crap once it is being run outside its design threshold.

Also, According to quite few forums (including the official Nvidia forum) the factory overclock is not stable. This does apply to many brands - like MSI, Gainward etc. So use MSI afterburner to remove the factory overclock and set the cards at their default settings. Factory overclocked cards have many issues in many games and its because of the overclock. This happend in rift and was notorious with gtx5xx series boards. Nothing nvidia or crytek can do about it - its the board vendors. These cards are meant to be clocked the way they are for a good reason and exceeding the settings is begging for trouble. Some people have no issues and others crash left and right.

The crash occurs suddenly with no reason. I could just crouch in the corner for 4-5 minutes it would crash.

I'm running HD 6870 with the latest drivers, so it's not only an Nvidia issue. Maybe the drivers are not well optimized yet, or the patch is screwed up bad.

I had the same problem, sudden crash, my GPU is factory overclocked, but now with msi afterburner, I could set the clock, overclocking has gone from 795 to 775 standards. it seems to have no more problems. I think the problem is that it is ati or nvidia drivers do not support overclocking, the GPU becomes instable is causing the crash video.

This is just crazy, if i overclock it crashes, if i keep the standard settings its unplayable because of the fps drop. Ah well, guess we will have to wait for the new drivers or something that can straighten this out.
