Don't like the game? Here's why:

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 6:04 am

What I find funny about all the people saying Skyrim svcks, is they start off by saying they've played the game for like 20-100 hours.

It cracks me up every time...

And if they played less than that, they would be dismissed because they haven't even scratched the surface and so "they don't know what they are talking about !".
Conclusion : a nice circular reasoning where whatever the situation, you can dismiss any critic against the game ! Isn't it great ?
Your internet rage is completely stupid. If something someone posted is so meaningless to you, why would you feel the need to just spew venom into a thread unless you're a piece of a garbage?

Pot, meet kettle.
BTW, you're the one raging. I just point at the logicial stupidity of circular reasoning. Though it's pretty obvious that logic and reasoning are not things you're accustomed to.

Now, Skyrim is only as good as you want it to be.

That's a fun line. http://www.bilerico.com/2010/06/hear-see-speak-no-evil1.jpg

Skyrim is perfect and has no flaws what so ever if you don't want them to be in.

Because forums attract people who only sign up to express their useless opinions. The rest are out playing the game.

Which makes me wonder why they would purchase a type of game they knew they didn't like in the first place.

Because I think with alot of the twisting of genres these days. Alot of people think they see a fast paced action type game, when it is really a open ended rpg world with action. Some might expect more of a quick fix FPS type game from trailers and get more then they wanted or think is stupid......Who knows, just a theory I guess.....LOL
Lets not go to Dragon Age 2 either, IMO one of the worst game releases of 2011!!!!

i feel sorry for the 'critics' (lol) who cannot let skyrim give them the amazing enjoyment its fully capable of, simply because the game has one or two minor issues.

i really do feel sorry for you, your ruining your first (and always the best, as its new) playthrough of a masterpiece of game creation.

not sure about pc version, but there's no huge issues with the xbox one, just a few minor hicups and the serious lack of sub menus, nothing major, and its not spoiling the amazing time im having playing through it.

thanks for the GOTY bethesda, epic game......

Forums have many purposes...praise, concerns, frustrations, questions...all of it is valid. Particularly because as gamers we do not get the same kind of consumer protections against getting broken products, and its not like we can call Bethesda if something is just plain broke (and I'm sorry severe lag, broken quests, item loss, immersion killing bugs in a game that sells itself as immersive are BROKEN parts of the game we paid for).
Rant on, praise on, etc...If the heads of these game companies have been replaced by non gaming business people, than we can only expect this kind of thing to be occurring...unless we [censored] enough. Don't piss off your base...there's plenty of competition.

Ignore everything bad and praise the good, got it.

Oh hey, every game suddenly has a 100% on Metacritic.

lolmetacritic

If you got the game for the purpose of reviewing it, I share your viewpoint completely. However, seeing as you presumably got the game to enjoy it, the OP is suggesting a means by which that is easier. It sounds corny, but it it holds a great deal of truth. If you want to notice flaws, you will always find them, and the game will be bad. As much as Skyrim does do, there is a lot it does not do. It is up to the player to overcome that gap in order to enjoy the experience. If you can find ways to ignore flaws and delve into its strengths, then you will have an amazing time.

An example: I played Oblivion on the 360 a couple years after it came out. There were definitely better games on the market, but my mindset overcame that issue to such an extent that I found the game beautiful and was completely immersed. I later got the game on PC and spent a bunch of time modding up its graphics. However, during this period of time I was much more critical of graphical flaws and gameplay mechanics than I ever was playing on my 360 version. Oblivion didn't change, I did. My mental framework kept me from experiencing the immersion I felt earlier.

I have a friend currently playing Skyrim windowed mode at a hilariously small resolution on his feeble laptop. He is loving the game.

This same thing applies to gameplay and many other factors. Problems can break your experience should you let them. There are exceptions that make the game absolutely unplayable. However, these are rare. In the majority of cases, it is people who love be stubborn, even when that attitude leaves them unhappy with the game.

Note: this doesn't mean that you should be dishonest when discussing the game, for that is a different matter. This approach is purely for your enjoyment within the game.

to those of you who like this game, listen up.. They may stop making games... Here's why:

They are releasing broken, bugged games, and when they are patching them for the consoles, their not fixing it, which is prob. 80% percent of their revenue, or income, to pay the programmers, voice actors, etc. etc. because lets face it, on PC, its a pirated product, I would be praising a free broken game as well. LOL

With the amount of money they are pouring into advertising it is vital to have everything right, kids reading patches are breaking game rules, game released on ps3 with FPS problems, and the infamous dragons flying backwards video's, will prevent them from making money off of their product, and in turn hurt the chances to make more games like this...

So you guys might want to really enjoy the game..

Might be the last...

Oh and if you think I am just hating on Bethesda, check this out..

Do you think the criticism (all of it) is uncalled for and that people give it just to give it (out of malice)?

I love Skyrim. Im gonng go play it in about 35 min. "I mean the changes from Daggerfall to Morrowind were just enormous, and we really heard it then. If people don’t like something in the game, and they spent their money on it, they deserve to [censored], and that’s one of the reasons our forums exist, honestly."- Todd Howard.
Like the man says (Todd Howard) I bought the game, it cost 60 dollers. I have every right to [censored]. I love skyrim. I think its the best elder scrolls. But I have every right to [censored] about things I dont like, just as I have every right to love things about the game that I like very much.

I've seen this thread before, only the wording was changed from Skyrim to Dragon Age 2 every single game ever released. Ever..

Fixed.
Seriously, I'm a pretty heavy gamer, I read quite a bit of different forums. I can't remember ANY game (be it a horrible game, a great game, a mediocre game, a okay game, whatever) where I didn't see these arguments :
- Only a vocal minority dislike it, but the vocal majority is having fun playing it and don't post on the forums (that is probably the single most overused cliché in these "debates").
- You don't like it becauqe it's not [name of a the previous game in the iteration] 2.
- You are only wearing nostalgia google, the previous iteration svcked, this one rocks (regardless of these same people having praised the previous game before).
- You don't play it correctly.

There is LOADS more, but these are the ones that just jump to my mind.
And again, let's be clear about it : these arguments are ALWAYS used, REGARDLESS of the quality of the game. From the best to the worse, from the truly terrible to the truly flawless.
There is of course the opposite equivalent, critics done to games regardless of their actual quality (for example, critics about "bugs"), but I don't mind "haters" as much as "fan-boys", because the former at least bring the possibility of improvement for a game serie, while the latter only smother any constructive discussion and serve no purpose.

Complaining about complaining just adds to the initial problem, and generally results in a thread which is nothing but bickering. Usually we nip these in the bud, we were a bit late to the party but it looks like it devolved into flaming pretty quickly.

I do understand that piles of unconstructive complaints are frustrating, trust me I do. However threads like this contribute to the problem rather than alleviating it, whatever the original intentions.

I'll also add that name-calling is strictly against the rules and will generally result in an official warning. I'm going to leave this with a thread lock, but those who let themselves get out of hand should be more careful and considerate in the future.
