Black Screen (goes to power save!) and sound still playing.

OK, so I'm really hoping someone here can help me.

I've run into a problem, and I was hopeful the patch would fix this issue for me, but it is still present.

I bought Crysis 2 from steam before the game even shipped. I played successfully on my previous computer with no problems. I have just rebuilt my computer (component list later) with the latest Asus P8Z68-V and an i7 2600k. The video card is a Radeon HD6870. The Windows 7 x64 install is fresh and fully patched with the latest available drivers.

I have not been able to play for more than 2-3 minutes since the rebuild. I have deleted my cache directory and saves, started over again, and got real hopeful when I made it all the way to the first level, where you break through the door and see the two cell agents killing the marines on the ground, and you get the tutorial on the visor. The game went black here. No ctrl+alt+del, no alt+tab, no esc, nothing would cause the computer to react. The monitors shut down and the BGM would continue to play. I would have to power off the computer and restart to get the computer responsive again. I restarted the game and managed to play through to the next save point, where the system blew up again and the screens turned off. I can reproduce this error every time I try to play.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in Advance!

KC

The SP is hugely taxing, let's say the SP uses 99% GPU, the MP uses 80%(sometimes 90%), it's a massive hit the SP.
OK, i had the same problem but it was in MP, black screen sound still playing, game crashes, the cause was my GPU.
it was overheating cause i forgot to switch fan on max, to begin with, then i had to OC it a great deal and up the voltages on it too.
Lemme say this, C2 SP is like running 2x C1 SP, at least right now it is until it's optimized more, in the advanced graphics i got only two options at ultra the rest at extreme with a few tweaks on post processing(it's only the color grading i like).
Anyways basically the SP is a huge GPU hog, the MP less wise, try the MP and see how you fare, i'd up the volts on the GPU a little and set the fan to max cause this game'll have it for breakfast.

Thanks for the suggestions. I lowered the settings to very high from extreme, and lowered the resolution to 1440x900. I was able to play for about 5 minutes before getting the power save notification from the monitors. I got in one last jump that I could hear after the video went away, but then nothing I did created any sound. The bgm continued to play and I could hear the fire I was near burning still, but the computer was not otherwise responsive. I also went into the Catalyst Control center and turned the fan to 100%.
