Overheating Card after patch 1.9

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:15 pm

Hey all,
so i own a gtx 260 ( zotac ) and a q8400@ 3.2 ghz. After downloading the new patch plus high res textures, to my surprise i found that i can play the game on ultra! no dx11 obv. the issue i have is that my card reaches a crazy 91 degrees when playing! is this normal for crysis? ive already downloaded afterburner and set my fan to a 100% im sure that will solve the problem. anyone else experiening the same?

I don't have a 260, but I have run Quad GTX 295 in 1.8 and temps do climb. Now I run Quad GTX 590 for 1.9, and temp in one GPU goes up into 80. This is with a Quad. So I'm guessing a 260 is going to be challenged.

With my Quads I set fan to 100 percent when temps reach 79-80. I'm uncomfortable seeing temps near 90. If 260 is inexpensive, maybe a second one would distribute GPU intensity in SLI, bringing down temps and improving overall performance. Just a thought.

yes.. my GTX 480 also reaches about 77 - 83° C... but the card is able to handle about 100 - 105° C. (with DX 11 enabled and hi-res textures on)

the hi-res textures need a card with about 1 GB v-ram, so be sure that the 260 card is rly challenged.

I used to own a leadtek gtx260+. and I always set 100% fan speed when playing games. gpu temp can reach 85c. running furmark will get VRM overheat(120+C) and crash.

gtx260+ was a very "hot" card especially room temp is high or in poorly designed case. in my case, the card was installed in a cheap case and room temp was always 30c, damn asian equator contry.

@ hooyao.. think about water-cooling. for warmer countries it's maby better then air-cooling!

Getting game with good graphics and game that needed big resources means you will get also "hard rock" on your machine. Means you will have high temp. or overheat. for good graphics and game that needed big resources.
