1.2 ruined my Skyrim!

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:12 am

So the 1.2 patch comes, Steam auto-patches, I went ahead and deleted the install and have Steam re-download everything (removes all the mods, ini tweaks, and the like as well).

Once its done, I tried my previous save games.

Crash. Okay...

I try to start a new game.

Crash. Damn...

I delete the Skyrim directory and have Steam re-download it again.

Start new game.

Crash.

Right, Bethesda, I cant play Skyrim anymore because of what you've done. Great job (NOT)

If you go to the PC hardware section, they've got solutions for that, I think. There's an official thread. :)

Good luck, I know it is frustrating.

Good way of blaming Bethesda. :shakehead:

Anyway, did you tried the Cache thing in the Steam?

cache = the directory that's saved in your steamapps/common/

Verifying the game cache = redownloading files that dont match up to Steam. Thats the same as redownloading the entire game off Steam.

this isnt my first rodeo.

even if you redownloaded everything again, your modded .ini files would still remain in your My Documents/Games/Skyrim folder, and those are probably what's making the game crash, especially if the ini files contain references to now non-existent mods.

Validate the game files in Steam, then go into your docs/Games/Skyrim folder, and rename skyrim.ini to something else, then start the game launcher. Skyrim will recreate a fresh (& hopefully crash free!) skyrim.ini for you.

Once that's done, quit the game ad add back in any special tweaks to that ini you may have

Sorry OP but you do know where your asking for help? You wonder why you got "Good way of blaming Bethesda." Why did bethesda put out a patch? Now many since the game just launched? There is no one ..not one person that has the game ..that has not bugs. We all get that quest where we have to quit, reload a saved older game to get past. We all have that npc that just dies for no reason. We all get that dragon that never attacks. I stand in AWE as people PAY for DX9 came out 2002. We have DX11 but people here are like.. thats ok.. we love ported console games! Its really ok to stand up for your self and expect something for your money.

I haven′t encountered any major bug yet. I′m playing since release. I′m using an unpatched .exe.
I game on PC. My game does not look console-ported. I have DirextX11 effects in my game. I bought the collectors edition. I expected to get my moneys worth. I got my moneys worth. I am happy with my game.
I just dismissed every of your arguments. Have a nice day.

My game works fine with only the tineist of bugs. I'm staying in offline mode until this mess is resolved, Again my game works great. Been playing since release and no major problems. I am far more than just happy with my game.
