Building your house like in Morrowind

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:13 pm

In Morrowind, if you joined House Hlaau, you eventually got your own Kwama mine, and got to build a very nice house/compound. Why couldn't they have done something like this in Skyrim? I could see a scenario where you get to purchase the deed to a mine. You can then pay to have a house built near your mine. You could with a lot of gold upgrade your house to the point of having a small compound, complete with hiring gaurds and workers for the mine/house. I remember in MW, when my new home was under construction, I could go speak to the foreman and see the house in mid-completion. It was really cool and was one of my favorite things in MW. Does anyone else feel this way, and does anyone remember this as fondly as I do from MW?

The strongholds for the 3 houses, and that mining town you help set up on Solstheim were some of my favourite parts of Morrowind. I'd love to be able to buy a deed to a mine and set up a little town, or a tower or something.

I loved the east empire company. Seeing a thriving town built by your efforts and eventually your own mansion was very nice. I also liked my scenic palazzo on the odai.

I really enjoyed the three Houses and their politics. They definitely added an interesting dimension to the game.

They could have done something similar in Skyrim with the holds. The civil war angle would have made things really interesting too. Just another missed opportunity... Oh well.

Yeah, I'd love to see some kind of house you actually build up rather than just having some pre-existing houses in the cities. (not that I don't like those) I think it would be a cool DLC to add a customizable stronghold of some sort - one where you can choose how to build it, what kind of decor it should have, maybe even location, and then have a town built around it as well.

Not to mention the actual ability to customise stuff. Although I think that's a mod, but I actually got to choose the stuff for my home...armour stands that worked and cabinets galour for my crap I couldn't part with. :(

I may have to go play that again. :)

I've always wanted the ability to build my house in TES. (Started with oblivion)

Say something like:

Property:

Price based on location. There are, say, 15 locations you need to find/do quests to find/do quests to get the ability to buy

Base houses: Chooses from, say, 20 different base looks for your house. Once you chooses one, you can't go back.

I'll model it off this game:

Since you are in skyrim, most houses will be built with Nord architecture, but, for an extra fee, a quest, or maybe finding a blueprint or simply being a certain race, you can get different house designs.

Nord: 6 diferent types centered around this type of architecture
Imperial: 4
Breton: 2
Khajiit: 1
Argonian: 1
Dark Elven: 2
High Elven: 1
Orcish: 2
Reguardian: 1
Wood Elven: 1

This is based on the influence each really has in skyrim For example, there are a bunch of imperials and nords, some orcs, and we're right next to morrowind, so dark elves would hae 1 more option.

You then get to upgrade. You can make outer and inner upgrades:

Outer:

You can improve the size of your house [porch, patio, archery range, stuff like that]
You can improve landscape
You can improve things like a mine if its on your property like mentioned in the OP
You can hire guards
You can hire small merchants
etc.

Inner:
You can buy [and PLACE] furniture
You can guy and place misc thinks and place them [pots, plates, bowls, etc.]
You can buy display thingies [weapon racks, armor racks/mannequins, display cases]
Buy extra rooms
Place things like enchanting tables, a forge, alchemy labs, cooking spits, etc.

Thats really all I care to think about. I could go into talking about upgrading your mine, adding things like a hidden escape hatch, maybe add hidden house types [underground, thieves guild/dark brotherhood style]

Agreed, especially if it includes stables. I refuse to buy horses because I don't have a central place to keep them.

So, someone who knows how to do this...please do this. :)

I think the best we (you) can do is put your idea into the mod request forum. There was some talk of houses there already.

would be nice, but its too complex for skyrim because a [censored] chimp wouldn't be able to figure it out

Sadly correct.

Bethesdas target audience wouldnt either care about such complexity or wouldnt understand. It saddens me that games are designed for idiots or those who dont care about them.

But that's the joy of mods. They don't have to use it, while the rest of us could build/decorate to our hearts content.

Yeah, that'd be really cool. I loved having my own manor, rebuilt just for me. It would have been cooler to be able to choose what restorations you would make. My sorcerer would have loved a library (bookshelves were too small to hold all my books) and an armory (I collected a lot of swords, and after a point they wouldn't fit into any containers).
