Why I love Skyrim, and Bethesda

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:11 am

I am seeing a ton of whining and Bethesda bashing here today, so I thought I would put something positive up so that maybe Bethesda might read it, and know that there are fans who love them.

Bethesda is the only company that even comes close to making a world that I can really dive into, and abandon reality for a while. I picked up Morrowind knowing NOTHING about it years ago, and I fell in love. I am not going to relay exactly why that game had such a huge impact on me - I am sure most of us already know - but no game since matched it in what it did. Not even Oblivion, though I love that game as well. Fallout 3 was amazing too, though neither quite had what Morrowind did. Until Skyrim.

Skyrim is a game where I can just wander around and not care about what I am doing, and actually "feel" what it is like to be there. There are so many moments in which I just stop and admire some sort of scenery or landscape. Quests take forever because of it, and that is anything but a complaint.

In the art book that came with the collector'd edition, Todd Howard said that the main character in any Elder Scrolls game is the world itself. Well, this character deserves every award there is, because Skyrim is the kind of world I want to live in.

There may be some bugs, but nobody else makes games like this, so it isn't like designing level after level with limited access and options. I accept the bugs, and thankfully, mine have been very minor and humorous ones. As for the major ones, Bethesda will take care of it. I don't think you guys realize exactly how big of a programming job fixing even a minor bug is, let alone one that affects numberless aspects throughout a game world in which you can do almost anything. Seriously, go learn an easy language like Python, and program me a very basic game, and then REALLY think about what Bethesda has to do.

Anyway, I love Skyrim, and you, Bethesda. I look forward to everything you release in the future, and I will be inhabiting Skyrim for years to come.

Lol, I guess you scared everybody with your statement. I'm not very happy with what Beth has done but I'm happy that you're enjoying the game as is.

I understand the whining, but now it's getting to the point where I'm tired of people whining about the whiners. But on a side note. I love skyrim too

Cheers
