Reinstalling without losing mods

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:36 pm

I've got all my mods up and loaded and whenever I start the game, my character moves abnormally fast. The character screen says my speed is only 40 but I'm moving like it's at least 100. Using the console command player.setav speed 40 doesn't make it normal either.

After trying to narrow down which mod was causing it, it was still happening with absolutely no mods active at all. My load order consisted of Oblivion.esm and nothing else, and I was still moving too fast.

So I'm going to try and reinstall Oblivion, but I want to keep all my mods. What's the best way to do this? Do I need to move them to a separate folder?

First I'd try disabling all mods then starting a new game. Settings like that can stick in saves.

1. Rename your Oblivion folder to something else (like "Oblivion-old"), and move it somewhere else on your hard drive. Do the same for your My Games\Oblivion folder.

2. Uninstall and re-install the game the good old-fashioned way.

3. Copy and paste your old folders on top of the new ones created by the re-install.

4. Play. :)

As SWG said, there is a fairly good chance that setting is stuck in your saved game, so this may not actually solve your problem. You may need to revert to an older save from before the problem started - and you should try that before you go about re-installing.

Looks like just deleting the old settings in My Games/Oblivion did the trick, thanks for saving me a lot of time guys!
