Skyrim mIRC support chat

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:17 am

I've created a TES V: Skyrim channel on mIRC.

Freenode server (hubbard.freenode.net:6666). Channel name is ##SkyrimSupport (you MUST type the extra # as it shows up as ##SkyrimSupport).

I want it to act as a channel where people can idle when they play the game, and bring up when they have a question. Or just to chat in general.

General chat and (right now) speculation welcome. No discrimination or trolling of any kind, but a great sense of humour welcome. Active and outstanding members can/might be made operators.

:)

Skyrim support group?

Otherwise seems a tad redundant with the forums and all...

Forums would probably work out best. Console players have access to both, whereas PC players will have access to the forums during the game. Use web browser in Steam, saves the time for the alt-tabbing if it works.

Sounds like a cool idea, I might stop by and chat. :D

Well, do you really want the forums flooded with questions like "How do I do [insert really easy action here]?"

The forums aren't as quick/on the fly as live chat. It's also a little more stimulating, in my opinion.

If I can get a few dozen people to start idling the channel frequently, we can grow from there. Playing the game and need some advice or have a question? Just pop open your mIRC.

Mighta been a better idea to fix the channel name before telling everyone about it :(

As for being actually helpful, generally the less computer savvy people can barely read forums let alone figure out how irc works :(

The ##SkyrimSupport channel name is correct. It has (2)x # simply based on the rules for the particular server.

Then you'll only have two thirds of the player base. The PC folks will most likely be unable to chat on IRC while in-game. However, everyone will have access to the forums. And the forums can be as quick, it just depends on how attentive folks are. I've had some forums I've been at where your posts would be responded to after 2-4 minutes.

And to that I say, the instructions are off. IRC channels begin with a pound sign. So, your channel name is actually ##SkyrimSupport and shows up as such.

Turn off the +i mode lock for the channel, it's not a name issue

I rarely use Freenode, so I don't know what their defaults are like. But that's the universal command for fixing invite only channels >_>

Channel is up and running. Had somebody pop in and bail. Not sure what kind of interest there is in this.

I'll keep trying for a few days and see the response. Thanks for the discussion.

You could always just use a low profile chat client and set it to launch on boot and all. At the very least, it may come in handy for running tests and as a scratchpad. That's how I use the 2 dead channels I've got under my control.

Hey, is this channel still up?

I wanted to create my own channel (on a different network) and then found your thread and joined your channel but it kicked me instantly.

Is it going to be put back up?

This channel is dead, however #skyrim on QuakeNet is quite active.

I'm in the channel. I'll probably idle there for a while

I like chat much better than bulletins
