Rules
1. If you are whining, complaining, trolling, or otherwise being annoying, please leave. I would like this topic to be of peoples ideas, thoughts and suggestions. Constructive criticism is welcome, for me included, but please do not act childish or attack others for their ideas.
2. If your idea is specific (a certain armor you'd like to see, a unique weapon, ect) please look for a specific topic for that type of item before posting your idea here. I have personally seen topics for weapons, clothing/armor, followers, and special random encounters, and I am sure there are more I did not see.
3. Please do not double post, or whine about other posts (I know, accidents happen, just be careful)
4. Be courteous. Seriously. This is a rule. We're all people (except for any aliens scanning the internet to learn about us before invading  ) so please, act mature. No name calling. No "DATS A ST0oPID IDEA U SUX ". Failure to follow rule #4 will result in your computer being destroyed by a smiley face :brokencomputer: , electro-shock therapy applied by a protectron, and the aliens coming to get you bliviongate: . Just like in the stride gum commercials: We'll find you.
Just follow these and we'll all get along nicely, and no one will have to be captured by a dremora lord. Or shot. Or whatever.
Anywho.
Back to Fallout. :fallout:
---------------------------------------
My personal ideas consist of a few different things, so please bear with me if some don't make sense or seem odd.
First, I would like to see a better system for commanding your followers. I want to be able to tell them, for instance, to be stealthy and they will pull out either a silenced weapon or a melee one, and they will attempt to actually sneak and avoid combat. I have seen a screenshot of the new system (I'll call it a "command wheel" for lack of a better term).
Here is a link to one of the pictures: http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/falloutnewvegas_screens.jpg
Hopefully that link will work. If not, google "Fallout new vegas screenshots" and one of them should show a wheel.
If this new system includes more functions (like sneak mode), then I say HELL YES!
Second idea:
I will go with the general assumption that our character in Fallout: New Vegas will have a pipboy of some kind. I will also go with the assumption that there will be power armor, at some point, in Fallout: New Vegas.
Now, I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to see extra HUD elements pop up when you put on a Power Helmet [Could possibly only work if you had on full power armor plus helmet, i.e. the helmet gets power from the armor, as it is supposed to go together]. Maybe showing BoS [or whichever faction has power armor used by its troops] supply caches? Suit readouts? Suit readouts allowing for you to change settings on the armor itself? And how about using that dang spotlight on the helmet instead of the ambient glow from your pipboy? Boy, that would have sure come in handy a few times in Fallotu 3. I'd like for the Power Armor to be more than just eye candy. Make it actually feel like we're wearing state-of-the-art armor with tons of cool survival toys and goodies in it. (Now before you go running off screaming I broke rule #2, I am not suggestion a new item, merely asking for more options about an old one. Yeah, I know, I might by a hypocrite. None of us are perfect. Yet.
Third idea: Customization of weapons and items (items being general, not just armor). Now, I know others have suggested this very same idea, especially in the "Weapons" topic, but I am putting this here as my idea, though I know others have had the same idea.
I want to be able to take, say, a 10mm pistol, and (depending on how they do it; for the sake of this example I will assume they have us make our own upgrades out of materials in the world) take a, say, empty nukacola bottle, head rag, and surgical tubing (to name three items from Fallout 3), put the rag in the bottle, put the top of the bottle over the gun, and use the surgical tubing to hold it there in some way. There you go, home-made silencer. (I vaguely remember someone in New York making a pistol silencer like this in rl. Only gave them a few shots before it didn't work anymore, but still.) Working off this theory of making your own items, if you could find, say, a high-tech base, you might be able to make a military-grade silencer that screws on the end of the pistol (and maybe be able to take it off/on whenever you want?) I read in the "Weapons" forum another idea of upgrades where they worked like blueprints, but this could easily adapt to the example I gave.
All in all, I want to be able to take a assault rifle and make it have a silencer with a scope on it (aka Infiltrator from Fallout 3's The Pitt), make a submachine gun with the silencer (would have been really useful in Fallout 3), or take a assault rifle and give it more magazine size. I also think that you should be able to upgrade a gun to the point that it's almost overloaded with add-ons (rather than, say, make it so you can only put 2 add-ons to a gun, so you'd have to choose "Do I want the silencer, or the bigger magazine? A scope or a laser sight [hey, we're in Fallout. I know that a laser sight is modern, but no reason Fallout techies couldn't have come up with the same idea. Right?
This system could also work for items - Finally add that dang headlamp on your Power Helmet. Modifying ammunition to do more damage, or have special surprises in it (anyone up for a frag grenade shotgun round? It's in rl [please don't say "Well, if it's in rl, it shouldn't be in Fallout." It's an example." Possibly add a shoulder mounted gun to your Power Armor (only something like a pistol or submachine gun though). How about making a box filled with [currency] and throwing it into a raider (or other low level enemy] camp and see them fight over it, only to realize that it's glued shut (or maybe that there's a grenade inside?). I would absolutely love being able to do this. That way, instead of Bethesda just throwing in a old item with a new twist (a la the Infiltrator again [Don't get me wrong - I love my silenced assault rifle. Just wish I could make them myself ingame]), Bethesda could concentrate on making whole new weapons and items for us. ( Bethesda)
A few other scraps of thought before I stop my little novel here:
Ability to make our own traps (Possibly bring back the trap skill from Fallout 2?)
Allow us to make our own bases/camps (I believe another person posted this idea in the "Weapons" topic; sorry I don't remember the username to give credit)
Allow us to pilot/ride in a vertabird. I was ABSOLUTELY THRILLED to be able to ride on one at the end of Broken Steel. I remember walking out, hearing explosions and alarms, and seeing a vertabird landing right on the roof and thinking "I am about to get blown up from the orbital strike I just ordered, the place is on fire in some areas, I am surrounded by Enclave troops AND YOU HAD TO SEND A FRIGGEN VERTABIRD DOWN TO FINISH THE JOB?!!" and I was like "WTFCOOL" when Lyons stepped out all cool-like and was like "Get in". I was - well. I loved it. I was hoping that the Brotherhood would let the Wanderer use the vertabird to fast-travel (i.e. you say "fast travel to Rivet City using verta bird, you go out of your pip-boy, verta-bird lands and you get in, when the interior loads up the pilot says "Alright, sir, we're taking off, Might wanna strap in. About like a minute or so later they should say "Approaching drop-zone" (or Rivet City or w/e [if they didnt wanna have them say every area you could go to using the vertabird they could just make them say "Approaching landing zone"]) Please. I beg you. Allow us to fast-travel via vertabird. Okay, childish breakdown about vertabirds over.
Allow us to be ambushed more while traveling. Now, I don't mean every time, but having, say, a raider party assaulting a camp [if there are camps] or coming across you at night and trying to kill and rob you (not necessarily in that order) would be awesome. Maybe you'd have a "Camp set" item that you could place anywhere, and you'd have to roll out a sleeping bag and start a fire, ect? That would be awesome.
Yeah. That's pretty much all I can think of for now. Please add your own ideas, thoughts, and suggestions to this. Who knows, Bethesda might even look at it
Or they might just run away and ignore us.
Again, constructive criticism is welcome, but suggest a solution, don't just say "You're idea svcks!". Say instead "Well, that might not work because of [whatever], but instead of that they could try this.
Thanks for reading the novel-length topic I wrote about this [Hey. Hey! Wake up. Wipe that drool off your face.]
