Here's a repost from a thread I made in the PS3 hardware issues forum:
Basically, book shelves in my post 1.2 game are completely unusable. What happens is:
1. Put books on shelf. This works as it should, the books all line up neatly.
2. Now reopen the bookshelf and take back all of your books. Exit from the inventory menu.
3. The game still physically displays all of the books as if they are still on the shelf (i.e. they are visually present and if you hover the cursor over them, they will display the title "I LOVE DRAGONS" or whatever) but I can't actually access the books (so when you click the action button on "I LOVE DRAGONS" the book doesn't open).
4. Now, the game refuses to let me re-open the shelf, so the thing looks like it's full, but I can't read the books, and the shelf is basically nonexistent because I can't reopen it ever again.
I have tried this in multiple homes in the game, and I have tried leaving and re-entering a home (hoping that it might reset the shelf or something). It has also persisted between powering down the system and turning it back on, and this glitch occurs even if I have freshly loaded a save (i.e. not just because I'm playing for a few consecutive hours). So far, nothing seems to fix this.
BUT WAIT, THAT'S NOT ALL!
Let's say that I'm putting books on a shelf, and I accidentally put one book too many on the shelf.
1. The game bounces the last book that was over the limit back into my inventory with the message "you can't have that many books on the shelf" (or whatever).
2. As soon as I exit the inventory screen for the bookshelf, ALL OF THE BOOKS ARE GONE (or at least are invisible) and even though I can target the bookshelf, clicking the action button on the shelf no longer causes anything to happen).
3. Now my books aren't even visually displayed, and at the same time I can't access the shelf to take them back.
