Bookshelfs trouble

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 5:28 pm

I have two houses. One in Riften and one in Markarth. If I place any books in any of my bookshelfs it stops me from interacting with it again. Anyone else having the same problem? I'm on the PS3 btw.

How do you mean it stops you from interacting with it?

Nope. Not that exact problem, anyways.
Sometimes when I put books in/on the shelf, it's like gravity revered for the books or something.. one book will fall to it's side causing a domino effect, causing all the books to tilt or fall over (falling to the top of the shelf) I no longer use the book shelfs.

Bookshelves are made so that you are able to read the books without taking them out. Have you tried putting the crosshair over the actual shelf and not the books?

Here's a repost from a thread I made in the PS3 hardware issues forum:

Basically, book shelves in my post 1.2 game are completely unusable. What happens is:

1. Put books on shelf. This works as it should, the books all line up neatly.
2. Now reopen the bookshelf and take back all of your books. Exit from the inventory menu.
3. The game still physically displays all of the books as if they are still on the shelf (i.e. they are visually present and if you hover the cursor over them, they will display the title "I LOVE DRAGONS" or whatever) but I can't actually access the books (so when you click the action button on "I LOVE DRAGONS" the book doesn't open).
4. Now, the game refuses to let me re-open the shelf, so the thing looks like it's full, but I can't read the books, and the shelf is basically nonexistent because I can't reopen it ever again.

I have tried this in multiple homes in the game, and I have tried leaving and re-entering a home (hoping that it might reset the shelf or something). It has also persisted between powering down the system and turning it back on, and this glitch occurs even if I have freshly loaded a save (i.e. not just because I'm playing for a few consecutive hours). So far, nothing seems to fix this.

BUT WAIT, THAT'S NOT ALL!

Let's say that I'm putting books on a shelf, and I accidentally put one book too many on the shelf.
1. The game bounces the last book that was over the limit back into my inventory with the message "you can't have that many books on the shelf" (or whatever).
2. As soon as I exit the inventory screen for the bookshelf, ALL OF THE BOOKS ARE GONE (or at least are invisible) and even though I can target the bookshelf, clicking the action button on the shelf no longer causes anything to happen).
3. Now my books aren't even visually displayed, and at the same time I can't access the shelf to take them back.

I have the same bookshelf bug, and I'm on PC. I've played well over 100 hours using the Whiterun house, with the bookshelves working ok, but just now I tried to build my "perfect library" in Markarth, but ended up with inaccessible books on inaccessible shelves. :cryvaultboy:

I tried reloading but it didn't work. The bug also affects all the shelves in my Markarth house...I think I'll postpone checking if the same bug goes for my houses in Riften, Windhelm and Whiterun, and just store books in containers from now on.

I't s a real pity, cause the bookshelves are a neat new thing in Skyrim, and I like the idea of gathering a large library and sit by the fireplace reading about all the dangerous dragons out there.

I don't remember why, but I saved in my house, did something I didn't want to and reloaded that save..... it was like a hurricane went through my house or something; my bed disappeared (I was able to walk through where it was located), my book-case also disappeared (causing all the books to land on the floor), and my two mannequins were not only off their stand, but floating 4 feet off the ground... :/

I had to reload about 3 times before it went back to normal...

The player housing in general is broken. I'm on PS3 and nothing works. Bookshelves, mannequins, weapon racks, weapon displays on the walls...all broken. Before the patch, only the bookshelves worked. After the patch, I was like Great! Instead of fixing was was broke, they completely made the player houses useless :stare: . Hopefully Bethesda is hard at work at a bigger more productive patch for us.

Bookshelves are yet another thing that was broken by the 1.2 patch.
Seriously, I think the "patch" broke more things that it fixed.
