*Sigh* Why does my game freeze?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:51 pm

Iv been playing for a little under an hour today and my game has literally froze three times.
I have an xbox slim...
im almost afarid to enter/exit places due to it only freezing when its loading

what i find amusing is i can swipe my finger by the power ring 4-5 times and it wont shut off.. i have to push on it about 9 times for it to shut off

the ONLY other game that froze on me all the time was FO NV

i dont know if its the new patch but this didnt happen before ( only once or twice )

is any one else having this problem??
would clearing cache fix this?

Try asking in the hardware/software forum.

I had this problem myself, now my xbox freezes every 5 min regardless of what it running. You could try to clear the cache maybe itll help.

Do you notice if the box or power supply is warm at all when it freezes? do you have you box in a decently ventilated area, like off the carpet or away from a door leading outside?

Edit: I did report this thread to be moved to the h/s issues forum, it should help you find a better answer there.

Actually iv inspected my xbox.. i have it set up on a wooden end table type thing with a fan blowing on it.. it dosent get that hot and actually the air blowing out gets cooler the longer i run it.. the power supply is almost always cold now that its getting cold outside..

Prolly not a good idea to have an external fan blowing on it, that could potentially drive some airborne dust into your box. You could try to airdust the inside of your box and see if any dust comes out.

Hope fully its not a hardware issue, like i said earlier my box freezes every 5 min regardless of whats running. I have the cover off, replaced the thermal paste, and still having issues although the heat sinks are cool to the touch when it freezes.

If all else fails you could try Xbox support, youd just be out an xbox for a couple of weeks :sadvaultboy:

Is the game installed on the drive or are you reading off the disk to avoid the texture issues?

If it is not installed, try installing it. If it stops you have a bad/warped disk -=OR=- the DVD drive is dirty/failing. If it continues, you could just have a drive issue. Backup your saves and format the drive, draconian but that's the last step I could think of.

As for heat...I keep my Xbox Kinect horizontal but its raised up about 1.5 inches on rubber vibration dampers from my Range Rover air suspension compressor ( long story but they fit :) ) It saves the drive from vertical stress and lets both the DVD and the HD last longer.

My 70hr character freezes when talking to any NPC, in any location. Freezes within a few seconds of starting the conversation (problem developed in version 1.1 and still there in 1.2).
No freezing issues in the new character I created, approx 8.5hr level 9 Redguard

I only have the fan on it when its warmer out.. its too darn cold for it now..
I think im just gonna let my bawx rest for a while.. the only other game that ever has made my 360 freeze was FO NV

do you have an older model xbox? or one of those slims?
