How does the smithing/weaponDMG rating work?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:04 pm

Hi guys, I'm a good headsway into the game but I still haven't got a clue on how the smithing stuff works, 'cause I myself have the 100th lvl in smithing and so does my buddy, but when I make a Daedric bow and improve it to legendary it gets a dmg-rating of 42 but when my friend makes a legendary ebony bow he gets a rating of 57 - how the hell does this [censored] work?!

Thanks a bunch! :)

did you consider the archery level on both your toons, is it the same? i'm pretty sure it affects its dmg rating

I have 44 he has 41 - so that's even more ponderous :P

ok he has 5 points more than me, I have 44 and he has 49 - could that make that huge a gap? :)

Do you know if he's using potions or enchantments to increase his smithing?

Nah he doesn't, but it might be the difference in archeryskill as the others mentioned, thought I had more than him, but it's the other way around :)

I made an upgrade to the orcish axe. I put on my smithing necklace, smithithing ring and blacksmiths apron of fortify smithing (enchanted) and it came to (Exquisite) with a DMG rating of 44. Ooops I've forgot me potion! So I came out, slugged my Blacksmith's potion, went back to the grindstone and got it to (Flawless) with a DMG ratingof 43 ???

well since hes got 5 pts out of a hundred more than you, that basically translates to 5%, it can very well explain the difference wich is only 15 points of rating in any way, as the pround owner of a level 67 dagger/archer, let me tell you, it doesnt matter if its daedric, ebony or nightingale bow, you will still be having the same amount of fun, with the bow of your choice. personally, just for the sake of being ultra light, i only use summoned weapons ( i like that the bow has its own summoned arrows) and it works just fine, having my skills enchanted well past 100

Each point increases damage by 0.4% not by 1% so 5 points only gets 2% increase in damage. There may be enchants or perks spent that may be modifying it though.

I believe the type of arrows you're using has some impact on this as well. Maybe those are different?

it must be some mix/match of different perks and the difference in arching skill that does the trick :) and no the arrows have a rating for themselves and there too I'm using Daedric (smithed with the arrowmod from skyrimnexus) :P
