yes, we all have the same problem I guess... It certainly is the best house I have found so far, even with the bug. I actually though the player has to clean the blood and bones himself and I tried to use broom on the blood and pick up the bones but sadly couldnt do so :D

yes, well I have never heard of anyone who has not had the bug. Even the youtube videos I found have the bug ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsDODZfkB3M )
Edit: And that certainly is a bug 'cause you see theres a bookshelf behind the altar where you can't get to.

In the strategy guide it shows under Available Decorations "Clean up that murderer's mess (cost 500)." Does that not work?

a-ha! No, I did not have that option. I tried to talk to the steward again but he tells me I have already bought all available decorations. So the problem/bug is because of a missing "decoration" option?

They could have taken that decoration out. When they wrote this guide the game wasn't finished and I've noticed in Breezehome they don't list all available decorations in the book so maybe they took that out. Who knows? I haven't bought that house yet but it's what I'm working towards for the Armory.

So apparently you have to complete the Side Quest: Blood on the Ice in order to get the house Hjerim in Windhelm cleaned.

The strategy guide says at the end of that quest one of the rewards is "A free "cleaning" of Hjerim, so the gruesome antechamber has the flesh and bones removed from it, whether you own the house or not."

Spoiler
In order to start this quest you must enter Windhelm and then leave the hold and travel somewhere else, return again and do this a total of four times. Then when you return the fourth time go to the graveyard in Windhelm and you'll trigger the start of the quest where the gathering of people are.

Even the house in solitude is glitchy.

I [censored] carefully placed books on shelves and when I come back to dump items everything is all over the place like a scene from Paranormal Activity.

Pisses me off lol

I hope you have a save you can revert to because I can tell you how to fix all this. I spent almost 5 hours earlier today reloading save after save trying to get the weapon racks to work. To get this house bug free you must break into it and finish the Blood on the ice quest BEFORE you buy the house. Once the quest is completed buy the house and get the "cleanup" decorating option first then proceed to buy all other decorations before you step foot in the house. If you buy the living room decoration before you buy the cleanup then the cleanup option disappears. If you go into the house after buying it without buying all available decoration upgrades then your armor racks / plaques will not work. I hope this saves someone some time and anger that I went through before figuring it out :(

You must be lucky... I did the SAME EXACT thing that you said. Still no working weapon racks. I do have the 1.2 patch though, which has already been known to break everything in the game.
