Mod recommendations

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 6:26 pm

I've played and completed Oblivion many times but have never used any mods.

I think vanilla Oblivion + official DLC is awesome by itself, but I keep hearing on forums about how some people think Oblivion is terrible without mods, and this has piqued my curiosity.

In the run up to Skyrim, I wan't to playthrough Oblivion again, but this time ultra modded.

Trouble is, when I go onto tesnexus, I'm just completely overwhelmed by the number of mods.

So I basically would like to know which are the mods that standout above the rest.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you like. There are a lot of mods that cater to a lot of tastes. I like the mods that add or improve places like Better Cities or Unique Landscapes. A friend of mine gets a lot of different armor and weapons and dresses up their companions in various gear. You may prefer mods that add player homes or quests. If you want a sampler, check out the top 100 link at Nexus and give those a try. You can also browse the categories and sort the mods by endorsemants or number of downloads. If you're not sure of a mod, read the comments to get a better idea of it. If you find a mod author you like, you can click on the downloader's name to see what else they made.

Topics like this are insanely common, there's probably more topics like this than there are mods made, and they just keep comming. If you want the most help possible it helps to give as much information, and uniqueness as possible.

Here's my generic written thing for these topics. if you want something specific give more details. I ask some questions in the below text as a small guide line:

Spoiler

Lists and resources for finding many popular mods, and some good mods:
(note the distinction between the two, don't just follow mindless peer pressure, try and make your own opinions and find what you'll like)

If you want any further help I suggest you tell us about yourself; what you like and what you're looking for... Here's some questions to get you started:

Have you played Oblivion already?
What sort of things interest you?
What type of Character do you usually play? (good/evil, theif/mage, roleplayer/random-no-story-hack-and-slasher?)
Are there specific types of mods you think would interest you? (Quests, graphic mods, gameplay mods, overhauls, etc.)
When did you leave?
What did you not like about Oblivion? What did Oblivion not have or need more of?
Male or female character?

For the occasional "What are your must haves?"
Mostly quest mods: http://kno.li/i
