Dean Domino and his Secret Stashes

Post » Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:42 pm

I really want to keep Dean friendly in my current playthrough, I've been forced to kill him in the previous. Perhaps comprehensible, considering I've threatened to beat him up and leave him barely breathing, and to break his legs. However, I want him to stay friendly with me this playthrough.

What's unclear to me is this: In order to keep him friendly (and not hostile in the Tampico), is it allowed to open his Secret Stashes? I can remember him responding in a negative way when I told him about opening one of his stashes in my last playthrough, so it's not clear to me if opening the stashes and telling him about it will make him hostile, or opening them at all will, even without telling him. Or doesn't it affect the outcome at all?

Perhaps someone has experience with keeping him friendly while opening his stashes. Any advice would be appreciated.

I found all of his stashes, emptied them all or at least emptied them of everything I wanted, and I was able to stay friendly with him.

Thanks for the reply! Can you recall if you opened any of them in his presence? As in; with him as your current companion?

I just did it yesterday so it is very fresh in my memory. I did not have him as a companion, at all, until I had found all 15. I believe that I had Dog as my companion while I hunted out everything, so Dean just went to the fountain after I found him. By the time I needed Dean as a companion, I had already found all 15 stashes. I don't believe there are any stashes in the area where you have to take Dean for the Gala event.

Okay, I believe I read somewhere you can't open these stashes while he's a companion if you want him friendly. I'm not sure if it works that way, but I'll do like you did.

Thanks for the help. :vaultboy:

I think the main things that decide if he stays friendly are your responses to him when you first meet him and how you handle his second quest. If you're polite and let him talk during your first meeting and if you go out of your way to help him in the second, he should stay friendly.

Dean does not care a bit about you opening his stashes. He might comment on it, but it ends up being something like: "Hey! Those are for emergencies! Well... I guess this qualifies as an emergency but... leave me *something*." Whatever he says is just words. It absolutely will NOT make him your enemy.

I've opened several of his stashes while he's been my companion and it's never adversely affected our relationship (I am always on good terms with him).

The only important thing to keep Dean happy and friendly? Whatever you do, when it comes time to have him take up his position for the Gala, do not threaten him! Threaten him, and you guarantee his enmity.

Thanks for the reply, good to know. Before reading your post I avoided his stashes, just to be safe. I was willing to cooperate on our initial meeting, and activated the Holograms so he could prepare for the Gala. It ended up just fine and he was friendly in the end.

During my fight with Elijah, I think I heard him say something through a speaker or intercom. However, I laid down 7 frag mines, three C4 packages and 8 Gas Bombs as a gift to Elijah, so I couldn't really understand anything of what Dean was saying because of the explosions. Does anyone have any idea what he says, or if he interacts with the battle in any way, like Christine does?
