Bethesda PR Department: B+

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:17 pm

With the recent update (found http://www.bethblog.com/index.php/2011/12/01/skyrim-what-were-working-on/) Bethesda has regained their professionalism in my eyes. They openly admitted they screwed up (albeit in a sugar-coated fashion) and offered an idea of what to expect in the future, how they intend to continue fixing the game and what kind of fixes will take priority.

Of course it helps that they bundled this with news of the upcoming construction set, which will get some people (mostly the PC crowd) to forget about the last few days. The idea of releasing patches first on the PC is a good idea going forward considering how long it takes for console certification. If a problem crops up in a patch they can pull it and tweak it before it hits consoles.

My only issue with the past week has been the silence. Yes I understand how PR works, but you hire community managers for a reason. It would have been nice for them to give us some kind of news other than "we're looking into it" while many people believed they had damned all of their saves by downloading the patch.

Bethesda, you guys made a great game. I've been playing since vanilla Morrowind and I don't see many other long-time fans leaving your clientele anytime soon. But please, going forward... just let us know what the hell is happening when our dragons start flying backwards and our atronachs forget what element they are made of? You know, not 4 days after the game-breaking issues were reported.

Oh and by the way, if M'aiq doesn't reference this fiasco in the next installment I am going to very disappoint.

Hell m'aiq should get a few extra lines in the updates themselves for good measure.

They should patch him so I can actually find him more frequently. After 150+ hours of play and I have only run into him once :(

Better yet, M'aiq needs to offer a quest. then he'd have to be more accessible.

Stop fast traveling. I've ran into him three times in 80 hours.

Bethesda "fixing" their games is like George Lucas "fixing" the Star Wars trilogy

Three times in ~30 hours; all near river wood/whiterun. I only travel by foot.

Bethesda, thank you very much for the message. That really is all people ask. Honest communication goes a LONG way toward solving problems.

I feel better about the future of the game.

I like that response. Thay basicly say they will fix that which didn't work as they intended in addition to the bugs so we might get the destruction revamp yet, and maybe even get rid of the option of uber stacking gear the Munchkins cans't seem to resist to use and then complain about(yes, it needs to be fixed, but self-control is possible ;) ).

I'm much happier now, having read that. I wish they'd been more specific about just which issues they're working on, but maybe next time I can get my hoped-for detailed list.

Oh my, you approve of them, I bet they'll be so happy!

They're gonna print this thread out to put on the fridge and call mom!

B+ is not fridge material.
