Quarls TP3 with OBMM 1.1.12.

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:54 pm

Hi guys. I've just got Oblivion running again after it breaking on me in Steam, so now I'm modding it very carefully. Truth be told, I just want to play it before Skyrim comes out. I'm a complete novice when it comes to modding Oblivion however (I'm more of a hardcoe Morrowind man ;)) I've got Darnified UI running fine, but have ran into some problems with installing Quarls Texture Pack 3. I've installed all the files into the right place, but it's the part in the readme about using OBMM that's got me stumped. It states :

Start OBMM.
Click Utilities.
Select Archive invalidation.
Click Directly Edit BSAs.
Check Textures.
Check Generate archiveinvalidation entries on hash collision.
Click the checkbox for autoupdate on exit and/or click Update Now.
Close the Archive invalidation popup (click the red X in the upper-left corner).
Quit OBMM or click Launch Oblivion.

It's been written with OBMM 0.7.11 in mind though. I'm using 1.1.12 and can't seem to find anywhere to "Directly Edit BSAs". Everything else I could do fine, but I've loaded it up and it's not working. I presumme it's because of that. Any help would be appreciated. I need this, and to install Francesco's levelling mod and then I'm set for my adventures in Cyrodil! :D

Wow, these are basically prehistoric mod using techniques. You're better off reading a BAIN tutorial. Let me just search one for you real quick. Wrye Bash will take care of Archive Invalidation, and make mod installation much better.

I'm not too Oblivion mod savy (Morrowind here too) but try this:

Open OBMM
Click Utilities
Click Archive Invalidation
Select BSA Redirection
Click Update Now

That should do the trick, it works for me wtih QTP3 Redimized.

Latest OBMM versions called that feature BSA Alteration. It will work just fine but you have to keep in mind that it's all about a very outdated method. Use BSA redirection instead or, even better, get rid of OBMM altogether and start using Wrye Bash.

edit: double ninja'd :ninja:

I am posting becaus the links in my signature will be helpful.
Nowadays Bsa Redirection is the only form of Archive Invalidation you want to use.

I use OBMM and do bsa alteration (indeed that is what the instructions mean), and haven't ever had any issues with it.

Actually I tried to reset my bsa and switch to redirection but when I loaded my game there was stuff missing so I went back to alteration. Maybe I misunderstood and the bsa wasn't actually cleared of edits.

I love how quickly you get replies on this board! :) I didn't realise OBMM was so out of date! I checked Utilities, and BSA was already on Redirect. Just swapped it to Alteration like Palidoo recommended and it works fine! Thanks everyone! I've got it all modded out as much as I dare now! Going to give the Unique Landscapes a go sooner or later, but at the moment, I'm just going to get on with the game! :D

For now I install and remove things manually, which might lend itself to using bsa alteration without any issues. I'm not sure what the case is for other setups, and why redirection is now recommended in all situations. Maybe someone can clarify; I wouldn't want any problems to come up because you're using bsa alteration with a setup or system of mod installation it isn't totally "compatible" with, but I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.

BSA redirection is just better as you set it up once and completely forget about it as it doesn't ever have to be modified. You need to re-edit the BSAs with the alteration method every time you install/uninstall a mod, which can be a pain, and it's not the most...elegant way of doing things. All you'd need to do to switch to redirection is to reset your BSA edits (the program you use to alter the BSA will have this function), and then set up redirection (Wrye Bash does this by simply going to the installers tab, right clicking on the sorting things and checking BSA redirection).
