Best story mods?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:05 pm

I'm looking for mods that have the best story, particularly ones with good characters, even character development. Vanilla oblivion never had very deep characters, I'm wondering if there mods that change this. This probably means quest mods, but it doesn't have to be. I've never used a companion mod, are they a hassle or fun to use? Even something that expands what the npcs talk about. I've played the game enough to where all the rumors I've seen before. I just got the death quest mod when I saw it on the list of immersion mods. I haven't gotten very far, just wandered into pell's gate and they're having me look for a potential treasure. So far I'm impressed, I think it added a quest to the black horse courier to help them find stories, no quest arrows, just something to where you might stumble upon a good news article somewhere and tell them, integrated very well it seems. You have to use the silent voice pack, but it doesn't really bother me, still get new dialog. Anything else with story/characters?

Vilja, for a start.

I don't know what the Underdark (et al) quests are like, but they do also feature prominent companions, or so it appears.

Maybe Ruined Tails Tale? Not familiar, but again, it sounds that way.

Also, Tears of the Fiend, perhaps.

Hm... Integration? But you do need RBP and LAME, in order to run that one.

Integration looks cool, I'm just hesitant because of the requirements it has. I'm already using LAME and really like it, but can RBP be applied to an existing game when I'm using the cute elf race that's not part of the race balancing project? I'll go check the readme for RBP.

Yes you can add RBP to an existing game. There's an update console command you may have to use but that's about it.

Also for anyone reluctant to use LAME and RBP:

Testers are needed for a No requirements, No gameplay changes version.

The Underdark mods...Well....
Spoiler
Viconia came off as a bit psychotic, forced, unraveled, and just plain awkward and bizarre. I played Viconia part 1 all the way through and part 2 about 2/3 of the way through. Now it's not that she was meant to be all of those things, because that would be fine, it's rather that her character, personality, and dialogue are poorly developed thus making her seem crazy, fake, and unrepeatable. For people that don't really care about character development or personality this prolly isn't a issue for them at all because; hell "I got a hot chick companion who when she's not fighting along side me she's wanting to grind all up on me!"

Can't really speak for any other underdark mods because I've never tried them. Viconia was based off of/transferred from a Baldurs Gate mod, so that could be part of it. The other companion mod is male, and I believe it's the authors own intellectual property so it might be different.

Windfall has a good story and characters

Malevolent has pretty good characters like all of Simyaz's mods

Lore Dialogues 300 allows you to ask NPCs a bunch of random things like in Daggerfall/Morrowind.
