Hey folks, I'm running an HD 5870, core i7 CPU and 6gb ram and wondering how you would recommend I tweak my .ini file?

Tweak it the same way as everyone else. The only exceptional things you can do with that card are turn all of the video-related setting up to the highest setting without seeing much or any lag in the vanilla game. However, many cards can handle vanilla Oblivion at ultra high settings with all of the water settings set to high these days. :L

Basically, what I'm saying is, don't go crazy tweaking unnecessary thing in the Oblivion.ini just because of your system upgrade.

Oblivion won't address more than 4 Gbytes of your 6 Gbytes of RAM, and you need to patch the .exe file in order to get even that. I have a 5970 and still need to use the normal performance tweaks along with QTP3, RAEVWD, etc. The Oblivion game engine simply won't make use of more modern technology effectively.
