Why does the thief guardian stone increase alchemy?

Seems like it should be the mage stone.

Each "class" has it's crafting skill.
Warriors get Smithing.
Mages get Enchanting.
Thieves get Alchemy.

I think it makes sense, so they can brew poisons and whatnot.

^^^^^

And yeah, if anything, Thieves and Rogues would be the types of characters to poison their weaponry more than any other archetype.

There's shared skills, like Enchanting is shared with Warriors and Mages, Alchemy is shared with Mages and Thieves, Archery is shared with Thieves and Warriors.

So if I use the mage stone my alchemy skill will increase as much as if I'd used the thief stone?

They had to make it look like a square, so they stuffed it where it fit... in the thief stone... since that was missing one attribute. (Just because they could.)

If you notice some skills are between the 2 sections and the icons are a slightly off color, those are shared between the 2 categories and can be improved faster with either stone.

There are no shared skills. Every skill falls into the category of combat, magic, or stealth. Alchemy is a stealth skill. Enchanting is a magic skill.

Alchemy is where poisons are made, and who makes and uses poisons? thieves! There is no magic behind alchemy remember, while it may grant magical effects it's just brewing and so people without any magical aptitude are able to craft potions. Enchantments take magical abilities like those of a mage to create and smithing takes strength and endurance (forges are hot!) which would lay in the domains of the warrior.

This is why doewnskitty is correct, it's not about who benefits from the skill, it's about who is more likely to be able to use those skills or perform those skills.

Because alchemy is not magic?, ok some of it might be, but this is more about creating health potions and poisons.

Funny, I was just thinking along these lines, my current character is a stealth warrior, my rule for this character is no magic or spells, this includes the restoration spell, so she relies heavily on alchemy, and of course a good sword arm.
