I agree. seems like a half hearted attempt. Also imo, Anchorage Alaska DLC was better than this... Power armor training at level 8 or 9 with Power Armor that never degraded. Chinese Stealth armour that actually acted like a stealth boy... AWESOME rewards along with perks. Why cant we get any of this with the new DLC??? Half hearted attempts thats why.
I am not sure if all that is necesary, but hey everybody here has a right to vent it is what the boards are for. I just think that the reason from what i have read by alot of folks is that the DLC was so much different than the game itself and any other DLC. DM is more of a cereberal experience and is can see how some folks might be put off by that but as DLCs go i rather liked it. The DLC was out of alot of people's comfort zones, mine as well in all honesty, but i took the DLC for what it is not what i wanted, i spent some time with the second character to build her off skills which is not hard to do if you wait a bit longer before entering. This is DLC that is not designed for the low level characters like the other DLC for FO3 which could be done whenever the player decided to trek out to thier respective start points. If you enter DM before 20 at least, your are going to have a hard time with this DLC, add into the fact that there is now hardcoe mode for FONV which was not avalable for FO3 unless you modded your FO3 so the environment of DM was also a constant enemy that was always chewing on the player character like an invisible gecko that can not be killed or shaken, always dogging the player with a nibble here and a nibble there.
My only real complaint about the DLC is that as a hardcoe player and as a fanatical crafter the tables could have been more centrally located. I would have preffered to have one of each bench closer to the fountain or even off by the gift shop with an area for the player to rest and store stuff although the garbage cans by the fountain worked. As a fanatical crafter there should have been more parts avalable for the player to craft some of the special foods that my high survival skills would have allowed. The fact that the game took my gear (weapons and clothing) was not an issue but take my gecko kabobs, my brahmin wellington, my bloatfly suprise and well now i am irritated. I got through the DLC with out those items just fine but for me crafting is such an integral part of the FONV experience that (did i mention i am a fanatical crafter) to remove that aspect of game play from the DLC or limit it as severely as it was, was not a game breaker but yea it diminished some of the entertainment value for me, just a teeny bit.
I am not going to dismiss any complaints because i can see how those complaints could be valid, but it seems that the guys took a chance and decided to make something outside of the box, which does not always work but i have to give them some credit though as the attempt was not a total failure. The story and the characters did leave a mark on me as a player, i did feel something for them, the evironment fit, the puzzles worked, the desolation and danger was palpable in the end all that can be said is that the DLC was different. Maybe too different, but that is not really a bad thing, on occasion everybody needs to have thier cage rattled, it keeps us on our toes, and i can say that without a doubt DM did that.
