Srsly Bethesda WTF?!

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:14 pm

Leveled up my Enchanting to 80 and my Smithing to 100. Enchanted 4 pieces of equipments with ''Fortify Smithing''. An armor, gloves, a necklace and a ring. They all have +18% to Smithing, so stacking them up boosts it to +72% efficiency. I equipped a full set of Daedric armor without any improvement, it was at 370. After that, I improved the pieces with my Fortify Smithing equipment and I got the full set to have an armor rating of 590. WTF honestly? Then I thought to myself, maybe I should improve Alchemy that way I could just brew a Fortify Enchanting potion, which would boost my +18% Fortify Smithing to something like +30% Smithing maybe, then apply it to a full set of Daedric armor and get a max armor rating of 1000 or something. Is there even a limit to armor rating? Cause there should be.

Is there a limit to armor rating or not? You could have answered that instead of pointless spam.

Why yes there is a limit to how much protection armor can give you, you're miles beyond it, overkill.

The irony is hardy in this thread.

Could have easily used the search engine, but whatever, the apparent limit is around 572 or something.

Perhaps its random.

I don't quite understand, does this mean the number is meaningless and that even if it shows 590, my armor rating might in fact be 400?

If anything is above 560 AR or so it is pointless. Dam resist caps at 80%. 600 is the same as 1000 AR.

Enchanting and Smithing are OP enough. If that is your complaint that you cannot get a high enough AR then well...you sir are having a magnificent game! On Master difficulty with my smithing alchemy and Enchanting maxed out I can create weapons with very high dam and then enchant armor to boost that damage to 300-400 easy. It actually needs to be nerfed lol.

Armor rating adds to a damage reduction %, that percentage being 85% which is achieved with just a couple hundred rating (I don't have the exact number off the top of my head), you can continue adding rating beyond that but the dr% will not go higher than 85.

It wasn't a complaint. I was WTF'ing at the thought I could get my AR as high as my Alchemy+Enchainting+Smithing skill could be. Is it the same for damage? I got my Daedric Sword at around 95 damage. Does it stop at 100 or so?

No, if your armor rating showed 590, your actual AR would be 567.

567 is the cap.

I think the OP meant the menu limit, not the actual limit used in damage calculations, to answer your question... my Paladin character is in Legendary Dragonplate boasting a 926 menu defense, takes alot to hurt him lol really only magic or falling hurts

Weapons are I guess a different matter, you can get stupid amounts of damage out of them.

That's what I said. 400 was just a random number. Well thanks for the info. Kinda stupid the game still shows it to be 590 when it caps at 567. Wasted a good few Soul Gems then. Oh well, at least it makes sense there is a protection cap. I thought I could get to a point where nothing would even scratch me. I just got one shotted by a Death Overlord's shouts. =/
