Cowl of the Grey Fox Problem

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:42 pm

I added a texture to the helm to cover the eyes. But sadly it doesn't work properly my character's eyes still show. So I went into the CS & changed it from just using the hair slot to use the head & hair slot. But this happened http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j10/ultimaomegacloud/MessedupHelm.jpg

I don't understand why it did that. I changed this http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j10/ultimaomegacloud/greywardenplasticwraplook.jpg from using the head & hair slot to just using the hair & it worked fine. This is the first time I ran into a problem like this. Is there any way possible to change the Cowl of the Grey Fox so my character's eye's do no show? Like add some kind of lens or something as a protective covering?

DId you move it to a different folder than it was originally in or rename it ?? --- reason for asking is the original uses an .egm file of the same name to make it properly adjust for the in game sliders that you use to adjust your head during character creation -- so you also need to rename or move a copy of the .egm file when you rename or move the Nif .

without the .egm file the helmet will wind up sideways for some reason so you need to make a copy of the .egm file and place it in the folder with your nif or go into the nif in nifskope and adjust the position by 90 degrees to get it back in the right position.

I renamed it, and moved it into another file. But when it's just uses the hair slot it works fine. But when I put it as it head & hair slots it turns sideways. What if I took another helm's egm and rename it to the cowl of the grey fox?

Edit: Looking at the Black Templar meshes there is no egm file. From the looks of it egm is only for helms that only take up the Hair slot? or am I wrong about that?

The reason that the ones that only use the hair slot have the .egm file is because without it there would be a lot of clipping issues anytime someone made a head that was a bit wider\taller than normal since the head would still be in use -- while those that use both slots it doesn't really matter since the head is no longer there to clip through the helmet - so no .egm file is needed

Renaming will not work because the vertices are different and in different positions -- what you need to do is create a new .egm file for your new model using http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9360 - but there are some limitations when creating an .egm (one big one is that the entire model must be a single Nitristrip\shape so you might have to redo the model if you left the new piece seperate from the cowl.) -- but since you are wanting it to use both the head and hair slots you could just rotate the model by 90 degrees in the NIF and not use an .egm file with it.

How do I go about rotating the model in nif skope? Hopefully it doesn't require me clicking on the model as when I do in the render window it causes nif skope to crash some reason. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Would you recommend any female Armour that offers full protection with a full closed helm?

Edit: I have a question what happened to the female version of the Giger Armour? I could of sworn I seen one on TESNexus at one time.

OK -first to fix the Crash in Nifskope --- Open NIfskope and go to the Render option on the top bar - go to the rendering tab and on the bottom left of that window uncheck the Shaders box under Render -- Seems some of the new shaders in some drivers cause Nifskope to crash when you click in the render window.

Now to rotate the model - open the cowl (or your new Nif) - click on the model - Go to the Block Details and find the Rotation Line - Double click near the Y P R (Yaw, Pitch, and Roll ) values to open for editing and under P enter 90 and then click somewhere else to close the editing (the helmet will rotate 90 degrees) - Save the Nif - Lod the game nd see if the helmet is now correct - If not and it is off 180 degrees we ned to go back and change the value to -90 instead (can't remember which it needs !!) -- Repeat for any oher NiTristrips in the model so that they all are moved.

Edit : Slof removed all of her mods from Nexus due to all of the criticisms of some of his\her work and the lack of action by the mods there IIRC -- you can still find it http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/theelderscrollsivoblivion/mod/23768.html - not sure iff it is the most recent version or not but you might also try Slof's hive -- Sure enough Slof's Hive seems to have a more recent version - http://www.slofslair.co.uk/index.php?page=modarticle&modarticle/id=5pigxbdozro
