Load order for texture mods?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:28 am

Is there a certain install order when it comes to texture mods? The reason i ask is, i just did a new install. I first installed Q3, Qarl's 4096 LOD Normals, Koldorns LOD noise replacer, and OBGE. The game was starting to look really good. Then i added AEVWD, Better Cities, and Unique Landscapes. When i loaded my game, it looks like my Qarl textures have been overwritten. It looks like vanilla. Is there a specific install orer when it come to texture mods? Thanks.

Aye, there be an order to it all. The general rule of thumb is that the textures you want to see in-game need to be installed last so that they overwrite 'lesser' textures. This is very easy if you install via Wrye Bash, since if you get it wrong us you simply change the position of your BAIN package(s) until things look as you want. It can be done via OMODs and even manual installs too, but the process is far more cumbersome and will likely need frequent time-consuming maintenance.

Best thing to do is paste in your Wrye Bash install order. We can see if anything looks amiss.

Yes load order is important. If you aren't already, I would suggest installing all your texture mods through Wrye bash, BAIN. That way all your texture mods have a load order like esps, and you can disable/enable them at will. I can't stop raving about how awesome BAINS have made my oblivion installation. It's never been so perfect.

It is as per every other moddable part of the Oblivion game: the last over-write wins. As it is for any given record, so it is for any given texture, normal map or mesh. The most fundamental of principles, that should hold you in good stead.

Reinstall "Qarl's 4096 LOD Normals", because you overwrite them by installing "Unique Landscapes" on top.
