Mods for my mom?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 5:17 pm

My mom didn't play many games but I introduced her to Titan Quest, Diablo 2 (incl. Median mod) and now Oblivion. She's logged 400+ hours of Oblivion so I'd like to get some mods for her to spice up her gameplay. I'm looking for stuff that really changes up the gameplay but isn't broken. i.e lots of new items, new NPCs to encounter, misc useful things like colored map etc. I could sift through the hundreds of mods but I figured there would be people here willing to help me and my mom out. If you have any recommendations please share them

btw I decided against OOO/other leveling mods as that might be too much for her. I think the "whole world levels with you" concept works well for her.

Thanks in advance.

Might want to check the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1167983-list-integrated-items/

By new NPCs you mean characters, right? Not the "I R generic robot." NPCs. Quest mods are good for that. http://www.moddb.com/mods/integration-the-stranded-light in particular has a dozen or so well developed, well written female characters ( In addition to my usual rammbling sales pitch  ). http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=125368 mods also usually have good characters. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21989l is good too.

map marker overhaul
refscope
hear no evil
Put it in its place
decorators assistant
keychain

utilities for installing/sorting/uninstalling/etc.
better oblivion sorting software
wrye bash
oblivion mod manager
You'll also need OBSE and some of its plugins for certain mods.

Thanks a bunch man, that's pretty useful :) As for new NPCs I meant that I'm looking for a mod that adds a whole bunch of new monsters that can appear randomly/in the wilderness.

If you are not going down the whole OOO/MMM/FCOM route, instead of MMM try these ..

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35913

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37529

Littlebaron also has another one called Waterbeasts (cant link on this forum because it comes under TESNexus advlt files - Though thats only because one picture shows a female creature without a bra) - Click on his Uploader name then scroll down his files to find it.

All of the above are a good replacement for MMM for my taste, and if using Wrye Bash all the creatures from those will be merged into the bashed patch levelled lists when you rebuild the bashed patch, so in game they will appear randomly aswell as the usual Oblivion creatures.

Edit: The above are part of Creature Diversity linked by Kasildor - But Creature Diversity is a bit out of date I think, LittleBarons have had updates since which Zaldiir knows about and was going to implement, however there have been hiccups with version 2 of Creature Diversity and it has not been released yet.

According to changelog of Creature Diversity it includes update of LittleBaron's Vermins to version 1.5. Little Baron Undead Additions has not any updates. Update of Little Baron Water Beasts 1.3 only tweaks meshes and textures. It can be installed on Creature Diversity, just need to find and overwrite 3 meshes.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21104 - add new books and ingredients.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4318 - make the normal thievery more fun and worthwhile. There is a chance now you may find a magic weapon, magic armor, a big amount of gold or (magic) jewelry in anymiddle or upper class house.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36362 - add Bala Stones to Ayleid ruins, which are basically the Ayleid Equivalent of Sigil Stones.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39549 - new welkynd stone that restores your health rather than your magicka.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19140 - adds collectible cards that are hidden all over Cyrodiil - 300 cards in the current version.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7341 - make closing Oblivion gates always rewarding. Add many more stones. Many of which have multiple buffs and weapon enchantments which are individually rather minor for balance, but should prove to be more useful in certain situations.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30859 - add achievements for doing something noteworthy. They can redeem for cool prizes, such as weapons, house upgrades, own summonable companions.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9412 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37280 (second more balanced) - adds more than 250 runeskulls to the game. They let you enchant weapons and armor without using an enchanting station, like sigil stones.

Seeing how it's your mother why don't you just ask her what mods she wants?

I know what kind of mods she'd enjoy. She has no clue as to what mods are available where as I used to mod my oblivion a long time ago (hence don't know the new mods).

Hi,

She's logged 400+ hours of Oblivion so I'd like to get some mods for her to spice up her gameplay.

Since your mom has logged that many hours I would suggest...http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11280 she wont think she is playing the same game!
