Question about ATI cards (not related to crysis)

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:29 pm

Hi,

So I'm currently running 2x ATI 6970 in crossfire atm, however I just got a 6990 as well.
Atm I'm waiting for my new PSU (since i'm using a 850 atm and the 6990 won't work so didn't bother to try it)
But my question is.
My motherboard (http://www.gigabyte.eu/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3891#sp) supports 3-way crossfire so I was wondering.
Can I run the 6990 AND the 2x 6970 in quadfire or not?
My original plan was to sell one of my old cards but if I can use all of em I'll just tell my potentional buyer that I'm keeping it.

Also if it is at all possible, won't the performance increase be very insignificant since my cards will be running at x8 speed?
Or how will this work exactly?
Here's the rest of my specs:
GA-990FXA-UD5
AMD 1100T x6 @3.9Ghz
8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz

Thanks so much for your time

I think you can use one 6990 and two 6970 for that combo. The 6970s would be fine going through 8x pci express ports, but putting a 6990 through at 8x is effectively like putting a 6970 through at 4x. So I'm not sure...
