Framerate cap on the menu?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:36 am

Hi,

Is it at all possible to cap the FPS on the main menu?
I want on the main menu and went for a smoke and coffee.
By the time I got back my GPUs reached unreal temperatures since the main menu runs at ~1000FPS.
I don't want them to fry so is there a way to cap the FPS without using Vsync?

I had this problem before with Starcraft 2, but they eventually patched it.

They should get this corrected as soon as possible...why the hell does a decent computer have to use 500W or more power to run the bloody menu?

****, haven't even considered that lol.
I have a 1200W but I don't have anything to measure the consumption.
I don't like where this is going <_<

Those menus use alot of CPU too. In Win7, Ctrl+Alt+Del takes you to the task manager screen which is easy to return from and uses no GPU. In XP, WindowsLogo+L will take you to the "Locked" screen. PITA.

sys_maxfps = 100

Oh, btw, last time I checked, they'd made this a built in cap in the actual game, yet they've still got the menus rendering out as many frames as it can.

Thanks mate, it's working perfectly :)
(For those who don't know, you add that line in the 'system.cfg' file)

doesn't matter.
I have it like this:

sys_game_folder=GameCrysis2
sys_dll_game=CryGameCrysis2.dll
sys_user_folder=Crysis2
sys_maxfps = 120

I really wish there was, Matt. And for many many reasons other than GPU thrashing on the menu screens.

But unfortunately, all you can do is run the game at a what they call a "fixed time step". This doesn't cap the frame rate really, but it makes the whole game run in time with the frame rate that you've picked. But the problem is, if the frame rate drops below what you've specified, then the game actually slows down (ie, it doesn't skip frames out, like it normally would)
