The Morrowind Playthrough

Post » Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:28 am

I've finally decided to play Morrowind in anticipation of TESV, and thought it would be fun and interesting to do video commentary for it. I'll probably be releasing an episode ever one or two days, and I'm really looking forward to making these videos. Any tips on the game are appreciated, and I hope you all will enjoy.

If this is really your first play-through, you might want to slow down and read what people say. There is very little hand-holding like in Oblivion, and people often tell you important info.

Unless you're playing on an 20-year-old computer, you should really increase your screen resolution, because holy-wow, you're menus are soooo tiny you cannot see anything. :P
Isn't http://img.jeuxvideo.fr/photo/00053226-photo-morrowind-un-exemple-de-dialogue.jpg and http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/1609/morrowindfullwn8.jpg much better than tiny little cramped boxes?

Using no mods your first time is good, so you get the feel for the original game, but the Code Patch is highly recommended to prevent Save game corruption. (all the fixes it has are optional)

Oh wow I didn't even look at the options menu, for some reason my resolution defaulted to 640x480, I just assumed that the game was old and had huge menus or something. Thanks.

:D You played through the character creation once before you started a new game and made the video.

Your menus are all changed and small when you first get them....not normal.

And also i highly agree that you should take it slower and read EVERYTHING talk to EVERYONE and do ANYTHING you can! I know it may seem a bit long and I can tell that you don't like to sit there and spend to much time on one thing but, Morrowind is a way slower game then Oblivion and if you don't have 100s of hours you can dedicate to it then it isn't really the game for you.

Well, I decided to download the Morrowind Patch and I wasn't sure if my saved game would still work, so I decided to just restart from the beginning with a new character. Disregard the Redguard Warrior that never was. New video is in the OP.

Yeah reading the dialogue through completely is very useful, especially the quest related stuff. Of course it doesn't make for very interesting video material...

Ugh, you played Oblivion first. Put down Morrowind. Give up on it. It's not for you, understand? Not to insult you or your intelligence, but Oblivion was for little kids. It held your hand through every single quest, except the Shivering Isles ones. Morrowind require the ability to:
Read.
Walk everywhere.
Not fast travel.
Actually DIE at least once.
Put up with a slow starting game that doesn't shove a war hammer and full iron armor in your hands in the beginning.
If you think you can do these things, please, go ahead. But trust me, Morrowind is not for Oblivion players. You'll get sick of it the first time you die and uninstall it.

Come on now, 4sostrander! Don't go telling a newcomer such nonsense. I started with Oblivion and did just fine in Morrowind.

Walk everywhere, not fast travel? "Why walk when you can ride?"

Anyway, it was fun watching Shiggy's Chargen (Take 2). Looking forward to episode 2!

I just have to say two things:

(1) I am very happy that I played Morrowind way before oblivion.

(2) It is pronounced SK-I-RIM with an I NOT Skeerim with an e.
Sorry just got a bit annoyed every time you said it.... :banghead:

So basically you're telling me that I shouldn't even give the game a try? I may be somewhat young (only 17), but that doesn't mean that I have a low attention span or that I'm somehow a "twitch" gamer.

Also you assume that I enjoy games that hold my hand? Or that I hate dying in videogames? Yes, I did enjoy Oblivion, but only after installing OOO and a few other mods that made the game harder. Nothing more satisfying than getting the upper hand by running in to a high level dungeon, getting a whole posse of souped up baddies chasing after me, and running back to town to have the guards deal with them.

Although I will admit that I hate reading ...

u 4got to mention the ability to deal with the slow hit-miss combat.... which is the only reason why i prefer oblivion over morrowind. its jus to bad that oblivion is so generic compared to the unique world of morrowind (execpt SI). hopefully skyrim will mix the 2 together.

I certainly hope so!!!!!

Though I hope it leans a TON more towards Morrowind's style then oblivion.

The sun is not supposed to be a black hole...look up a Fix and DON'T Delete your save when applying it...just copy it to a dif folder if you want to be safe.

Also I don't recommend Quick Saving...best recipe for Corrupted Save files.

You shouldn't discourage this guy from at least trying the game. I'm 21 now but I started playing Morrowind when I was 13 and used to post on these forums all the time. I loved it then and I still love it. Probably spent 200+ hours on one character, easily. Beats Oblivion hands down.
Get ready for a real kick-ass adventure.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8188 - It's just a simple texture fix, your Save file is perfectly safe in every way.

Quick Saves do seem to be more unstable for many people. Using the Code Patch does help reduce corruption.
And it is best to make a new Save file often, then delete the old ones as they pile up. Using the same one over and over can "wear it out."

Episode 3 is up.

Also, the video quality was terrible when exploring in the dark, and I apologize, so I'm going to be uploading these videos in 720p from now on.
