1.2 Patch (To update or not to update)

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:13 am

Hello everyone, I haven't updated to 1.2 yet and I was wondering if I should or not. I've heard some negative things about it but I'm unsure if they're true or not. So this is when I look to you guys, go to 1.2 or stay at 1.1?

EDIT: Also, is there a list of things that were "fixed" with the newest patch? Such as a change log or something.

I'm enjoying it so far. The game somehow feels better, but that's probably just me.

Me as well. The game just seems to run... better. I have had no CTD's since the update (maybe the audio issue had something to do with my previous crashes) and all of my quest givers have remained unbugged. Of course there is the resistance issue to be ironed out, but Beth has said they will have a patch for that next week.

Don't do it. At least on the ps3 it did more harm than good, because now the game is ignoring resist magic bonuses.

Depends on what platform you are on, if xbox I would not, my game was fine before the patch, now it is buggy as hell. Then again I don't even know if you can avoid it or not.

I could just disconnect the Internet when I play thus avoiding the patch completely.

I'm an Xbox player and I like the fact that with the patch I can now install to hard drive. Is there any other major bugs besides resistances being ignored and dragons flying backwards?

The patch next week pretty much is primarily to undo the problems they patched in 1.02. Why on earth would you patch it in if you had a choice. I'd go offline with no patch until next week unless you like having no resists and a good chance of seeing dragons flying backwards.

Current 1.2, blows. If you have no understanding of the game itself and game mechanics in general, you will love this update however.

1.2.1 will be released next week sometime to resolve the issues as Bethesda has said on twitter.

So if you don't care for screwy gaming go for it.

I myself am just going to bite the bullet because I wanna talk on XBL and play at the same time so I will deal with the BS since I notice it.

I am on XBOX. I haven't seen any major issues at all. I decided today to risk ahead the update to 1.2. Played for several hours and still no problems.

That's no guarantee. Plenty of people seem to be having issues.

Edit: I should add that I haven't had a chance to test the issue regarding lack of resistances. For my Nord melee character I usually get wrecked by mages though, regardless of the element.

Is you're game running fine as-is? If not, don't update: There are some serious issues that may pop up. If it's not running fine... Hopefully Backward-flying dragons are worth a more stable gameplay experience.

Well Bethesda via their official blog did confirm they are releasing more patches early next week so that should tell you they have confirmed bugs with this latest go round. I would just wait, especially if your game is running fine now.

I played for a few hours last night on the 1.2 patch. NO problems at all. I didn't notice any difference. It seems that the 1.1 patch already made resistance svck... but I tried the kill an atronach with its own element, and I two shotted a fire one.

On the upside, my destruction magic seemed more powerful. I don't think anything changed, but I was one-shotting the hell out of bandits.

After witnessing a frost dragon kill my Nord and his ice atronach with frost breath I decided that I am not going to play skyrim until magic resistance is fixed

well on the xbox dragons are really glitchy, or at least for me they are. They keep locking up in mid air and its really annoying.

on xbox and I can confirm that the magic resist bug is crippling at times, when my breton with 65% resist magic (yay passive bonuses) gets one shotted by an electromancer I am going to call BS (when I am level 23 with most of my points in health)

New patch messed up Dragon AI for me. They don't attack and are invulnerable to my ranged attacks even though they are in range so I don't get the aggro and they just fly away after few minutes.

I've been getting lag issues when I look around on PC - as in, the screen judders a bit when I turn around - and MUCH more noticeable pop-in since I installed the patch. Also resistances seem to be gone, but everyone already knew that. Not seen any dragons fly backwards yet but I haven't done Mirmulnir yet because I happened to start a new character the day before the patch and didn't want to do the main quest with him.

I'm playing on ultra-high with 8GB of RAM and a 2GB Radeon 6950 by the way, on 1920x1080. Before the patch the game was smooth as silk. Load times are still extremely short (like 5 seconds most).

Element / magic resistance bug is really annoying when playing master difficulty and going up against elder dragons or even [censored] necros....

Oh, magic resistance is bugged? That explains why dragons blow through my resistance like it's nothing, it actually is nothing.
