how do you repair a "greyed" out weapon

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:39 am

ok, I have a wonderful sniper rifle, its greyed out and completely needs a repair. I have a few run repair kits but it repairs the current weapon that you are holding. I can't "hold" the sniper rifle so is it just not possible to repair it myself?

You can repair it by yourself if you obtain another Sniper Rifle that isn't broken.

The other method is to take it to a person that can repair your Sniper Rifle and let them do it. Preferably, pick a person with a low repair skill so that you aren't spending too much on caps and you can repair it with your weapon repair kits. I don't have a person off-hand as I don't use repairing services.

You can go to the sargent at the Mojavi Outpost, (he's in the barracks building at the front desk), he does repairs. I think Mick or Ralph, (forget which), do repairs. Other than that, its Raul in his shack, but you lose any companion use from him.

The guy at the Trading Post has a low Repair skill so it'll be cheap there.

The nice lady at Gibson's Scrapyard between Helios One and Novac has low repair skill so it's a good place to begin the repair.

Those don't work on completely broken items because you can't equip the item anymore. So it's pay to repair or merge it with an unbroken weapon.

It's odd about that..
I think all it would take to fix it is place the weapon repair kit item in each weapons repair form list in the GECK.

Also, if you equip another weapon and use the broken one to repair it, any mods on that broken one will be lost. Some mods are hard to find once you've bought one the first time-- I somehow lost a heavily-modded laser rifle, and could only find the scope later -- the optics and beam splitter were nowhere to be found at all the vendors I looked at.

Which, in fact, has been done to combat the durability mod bug that lowers a weapon's condition http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159180-rel-weapon-mods-expanded/page__view__findpost__p__17098115. And yep, it does work.

Mojave Outpost and Raul can repair it to 95%, making them the best by far. Mick is pretty good at 85%, Calamity at 75%, the rest of them svck.

Well, ironically, you actually want the svcky ones in this case. Having a low repair person will mean that it'll cost you less caps as you can fix with weapon repair kits yourself, therefore turning in into a larger profit, if you're planning to sell said weapon.
