#1 Reason Skyrim is better than Oblivion.

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:18 pm

Think before you post please. If he put the title as ''1 reason Skyrim is better than Oblivion'' ...sure it would be '' A '' reason, not the first. #1 Actually is interpreted as Number 1

''#1 Reason why Skyrim will win GOTY'' - ''Number 1 reason why Skyrim will win GOTY''.

You can take the cookies with you though :)

Dude, learn English. #1 means the first out of any number of items in a list. For this guy, this is his first and greatest reason, not his ONLY reason. Even with a title of '1' reason it would just mean one of many...

Well now you've just confused the issue by doubling back on your own initial post, or something, can't tell it's so confused.

Let me make it clear(er)

That translates as, [the] Number One Reason Skyrim is better than Oblivion.

You inferred the "the" yourself, it's not implied. But in any case, it means exactly the same whether the "the" is there or not - it's the first reason, not the only reason ;)

Mmmmm cookies. Nom nom.

Makes sense. To guy complaining about buggy release, when you hype it and promise things for 11/11/11, including free games for life, you can't change it.

OK, just out of curiosity, what exactly is wrong with using the word "dude" in English?

I also put it in [brackets]. It means it's a choice of whether you use it or not. #1 Reason Skyrim is better than Oblivion or The #1 Reason Skyrim is better than Oblivion.

It's funny how some are trying to nitpick my [censored] first post apart, when really the issue still stands: REALLY, This is even '' A '' reason Skyrim is better than Oblivion, because an axe is not a blunt weapon now? Out of all the things that could be used as a for/against argument between any TES game, this is what some are happy about. But ok.

But just to clarify, yes i know it is not the Only reason (not even a reason to me but whatever), but this is the Number 1 reason for him. It's quite simple to understand what i mean.

Axes aren't considered a blunt weapon.

Discuss.

So glad you're happy about that. :D I don't use blunts or axes very often unless it's the one in Skyrim that has Soul Trap on it that I was able to find early. As far as Oblivion goes, I LOVE Oblivion...it's very special to me and I expected Skyrim to outdo it in many ways. I'm not disappointed because that is what has happened but I still LOVE Oblivion. Can you tell I love Oblivion? I love Skyrim too by the way.

Well, with that.

Before you break out the champagne there....read this :

''The word dude is an American English slang term generally used informally to address or refer to somebody and was once used primarily by advlts but this has become a common slang term used in various age groups.''

Slang. Not all slang is the same, and not everybody uses it. It's also American English slang, you say tomato , i say...tomato, but differently ;)

Well, with that.
how do we know that swords are not considered blunt weapons?

Well, technically it isn't stated so it is Blunt if you wish it to be :P. Could be as sharp as a spoon for all we know.

Languages are evolvant and fluid and its usually incorrect and always pedantic to say a word does not exist, or is used wrongly.
For instance, I will happily start a sentence with 'and'.

Or, as a famous writer from my country, Louis Couperus, once said:
"It exists, because I use it."

Number one reason for me is that I actually want to visit the dungeons in this game. In Ob I missed about ~70% of them through just not caring.

This one should be considered a gem - and very likely one of the #1 "reasons".

(Not a real spoiler, just a quote.)

Spoiler
"They say people from Skyrim are more pretty than Cyrodiil. But M'aiq does not care. All people are beautiful to M'aiq."

The only reason I'd say Oblivion have to offer is that the mage's guild's got a better storyline than College of Winterhold, at least longer. Skyrim pulled it off nicely, but then it was just so very, very short. Then again, Oblivion didn't pull it off good at all, it was crap, besides the story itself and the amount of quests.

So, all in all. They're just as bad and good as each other. On all other aspects, I'd say Skyrim dominates over Oblivion any day, for me anyway.

Yes, people keep telling me this, and I still happily continue.
Its my writing style, sometimes I tend to write long sentences because I want to convey a single thought in them.
Rather than using yet another comma, sometimes I will just end the sentence and start the following one with 'and'.
Also, sometimes for purposes of 'rhythm'.

When it comes to language I personally find having a distinct and recognisable idiosyncratic style to be far more important than literal correctness.

People have recognised me on online games from other games, purely because of the way I write.
And I find that a compliment :)
