hy, i have a problem

when I play crysis 2 my PC just simply shuts down after a while (can be 10 can be 40 min in), I have the game since day 1 and I didn't have this problem until last friday or saturday, I didn't change any setting, I didn't overclock my CPU or GPU, it worked perfectly fine wendsday when I played it

only cyrsis 2 has this problem, I tried playing MW2 and BC2 and both worked fine, will try and test some other games too latter on

is my graphics card dying or something? I alt tabed out of the game some 10 min in to check the GPU temp on the ATI control center and it was around 107, is that too high?

my spec:
E8400 @3GHz
ATI 4850 HD
4 gig of ram

I've heard the 4850 runs quite hot, maybe it's overheating

Overheating? I think that this has nothing to do with the game, probably a hardware problem....

Should throttle at 105, thermal junction is at 120-125 (eg card craps out at that temp).

Most likely you will get graphical errors as it throttles after 105oC. Most likely its causing other components to overheat in your case.

holy ****?!?! 102 celsius?! dude ur PC is shutting down because its on its way to cause melt down! u can fry eggs on it. Its wrong with your hardware because crysis 2 is very demanding game unlike BC2 and MW2 which causes ur system to run on its max.

Yeah, because when your computer overheats it tends to shut down

If you have the single port 4850 all that heat is going inside your case. Most computer components can run at 100oC for a while.

just cleared out some dust today, tried MW2 and the card the running at the same temperture (around ~105 give or take), mind you that is with the side plate of the case removed, I removed it today to see if it helps, will try to play crysis 2 now for a while to see if it still shuts down

oh well i wanted to upgrade to te 6850 anyway, atleast now I have a decend excuse ^^
still strange that it worked fine until last weekend, maybe beacose of the increase of the room temp?

edit: nope, removing the side pannel of the case didn't help

Once a friend caused my old comp to keep rebooting, it was the middle of winter in near 0 temps at a 48 hour straight lan, he got the bright idea of turning a heater on, but pointed it at my comps tower :X

You should definitely clean your components from the dust. Sounds like what happened to me before I realized how much dust there actually gets inside the computer..

Serious dude, get some better cooling to cool your system/GPU down. Over a 100C is out of tolerance and don't risk your computer until you have sorted it out.

100 degrees C is far too hot for a gpu...
Fix the ventilation problem before getting a new video card.
Fans, remove dust, tidy the wiring, bigger/better case...watercooling? maybe not
More and more cards are being made with better coolers, thinking asus, gigabyte, msi, etc.. eg. asus6950CU2
With the power hungry cards being sold today... silly were still seeing them stuffed in a box with a few air holes and only one window(fan).
