Stashes and improvised homes

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:44 am

So I've been thinking of building a sort of orc savage character, a character that lives alone and shuns cities. I was hoping to claim a cave or bandit camp for my own. Use their containers and such. I understand that bandits might eventually reset, but I could just roleplay it as an incursion on my dwelling. My question is more focused on container/zone resets. How do zones and item reset rules work in this game. Will containers be emptied out every few day?

Is there a console command to turn containers into player owned containers so they dont reset?

I have heard that the hunting shacks and alchemist shack do not respawn so they could be the ideal solution. I plan on using one myself. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I don't know about respawning and safe storage but there is a perfect cave by Markarth that you visit durring a forsworn quest.

I think anise's cabin (near the guardian stones) doesn't reset as I used to use it, it has an alchemy and enchanting table to.

Be careful where you store your items. The "Help" section in the menu indicates that if you store items in containers which you do not own, they might be gone later.

I haven`t actually tried this out myself but I`m planning on it:

Why not use a follower who is not following as a storage site. Take Lydia, for example. If you`re not using her she just hangs around the Jarl`s place. You could store stuff on her the same as you would a chest.

Although there would be a possible drawback of a weight limit depending on how much stuff you were collecting.

Test it out.

Take a crappy basic weapon. Enchant it with a crappy enchant so that you can rename it, making it unique. Store it somewhere, forget about it for a while, then come back and check when you remember you wanted to store some stuff

I heard someone somewhere claiming the zone/item happen after 30 days / a month never checked that. Too bad I once went back to Bleak Falls Barrow to grab stuff I stored there though there was quiet some time between me storing the items and then fetching them.

Abandoned shack that is given to you at the beginning of the dark brotherhood quest. They give you the key to the place.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Houses and scroll down for a list of shacks with non-respawning containers.

I know alot of the caves, buildings and forts would make excellent havens for the non-city dwelling character. Some of them are just awesome and have the things you want, or don't want. With factions and guilds, the option to claim it for them or yourself would be mighty cool indeed.
