Wanting to mod or the first time... sorta

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:49 am

I've installed mods before and used the OBMM, and I want to get a graphical enhancement mod for Oblivion. Not too much to make it look like another game, but enough to make it look better. Also, I tried installing the Graphics Extender mod and got confused with various Tutorials that I didn't quite understand. Anything easy for a newbie like me?

Graphical enhancement mods like QTP3 etc. are just like other mods in terms of installtion.
They are usually called texture replacers, as they increase the resolution of the textures you see on world objects. Do recall that the more high resolution the textures are, the harder it gets to run a decent FPS in the game. You need a very good graphics card (>1 GB VRAM) to run QTP3Redimized for example. There are other texture packs that are less demanding, like vibrant textures etc.

Here's a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1213147-oblivion-the-beautiful/page__hl__%22oblivion+the+beautiful%22 that has good recommendations.
Go on tesnexus, and if you start searching, you will find a ton of these.

And How to install mods can be found by reading http://tescosi.com/wiki/Oblivion/Mod_Installation. Use OBMM as you are used to.

OBGE is something more difficult to install (not really), but it is not a texture replacer, it is a shader engine that hooks into Oblivion's engine through black magic!

Maybe you mis understood the graphics extender. It's like if you go into the OBSE topics you see a bunch of technical talk and think: "Aaaaa! scary!" Most of the complicated tutorials and such I think are just for modders, as a mod user you just need it for mods it requires... I think there's ini tweaks and stuff you can make too, but you don't have to.
