Really AEVWD and Unique Landscapes

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 12:04 pm

So, I've been trying to figure out how to get distant LOD to work for Unique Landscapes with no luck so far. As of now, when I use Really AEVWD, this means that any objects unaffected by Unique Landscapes (I have the whole compilation installed) show up just fine at any distance, but anything added by UL only pops into view as I walk very close to it. Is there any way I can get distant LOD that applies to UL? I tried running TES4LODgen, but this didn't work and introduced some weird graphical glitches too. Does anyone know a solution for LOD with UL?

You need TES4LODGen to use RAEVWD. Period.

What sort of graphical glitches did you encounter?

What sort of graphical glitches did you encounter?

Battlehorn castle appeared black from a distance, Cloud Ruler Temple appeared to be floating and only half attached to the mountain, and the main issue was that anything added or modified by UL still wouldn't pop into view until I was very close. What is the ideal order in which I should install the UL Compilation omod, the RAEVWD omod, and run TES4LODGen?

I read that the UL compilation omod automatically installs the correct LOD, is that incorrect?

Ideally, you should be using BAIN, not OBMM, but hey :P

You need to be more specific about what's not showing up. Screenshots will help immensely here. RAEVWD covers only vanilla meshes that don't ordinarily come with _far.nif files. The ULs that need them include their own _far.nif files. So there should be no issue with tes4lodgen not coming up with something.

Black LOD - Usually because you're not using HDR lighting. It's an engine bug, not something that can be corrected with mods.

Landscape LOD and Distant LOD are separate entities in this game. RAEVWD handles the Distant LOD.

Floating buildings is due to this game over-reducing the poly-counts on the generated Landscape LOD meshes, so the distant land doesn't match with the normal land. Also, any smaller rocks that the building is constructed on won't show up, and that can contribute, as well.

You need to use HDR lighting if you are going to use TES4LODGen to avoid the black LOD bug.

Well, if BAIN could make this more likely to work, I'm willing to give it a shot. Just installed Wyre Bash, but I admit I've always been terrified of it, because I don't even have the slightest idea where to start with this . . .

First question: How the hell do I start doing anything?

Edit: Now that I've installed Wyre Bash, Oblivion crashes as soon as I open it. Fml.

Are you using Bloom instead of HDR? TES4LODGen does not work without HDR, per it's readme.

Search on Nexus for Wrye bash pictorial guide - I've already linked to it 7 times today, so I am just being lazy now.

I've been using HDR. But thanks for pointing me to the guide, now I can actually try installing some mods via BAIN!

Well, I got it working, LOD for UL and all, but my FPS went from a steady 45-60 to 15-20. Guess I can't win them all. :P

It works, in the sense that it won't fail to do what it's supposed to. The results aren't always desirable though because of the bugs in Bloom lighting. I have no idea how it performs with the 3rd setting.
