The one thing I really hate...

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:13 am

I'm playing on the PS3 and have suffered through all the bugs, screen freezes, extreme lagging etc, have played over 100 hours and just need two more daedric quests completed to get my platinum. I can handle that.

What I cannot handle is spending 50 minutes trying to climb up a mountain and keep getting stopped from reaching the icon on the map because of a steep cliff. Does my head in! lol I must be climbing the sides of mountains in my sleep lol

I know how you feel, I get the same thing on PC. I guess it's because it's easier to do then finding the intended path up, it'd be nice if there was more indicating where the actual path up is meant to be, in some cases you're meant to use a dungeon or a mine to get up, but good luck knowing which one that is.

I do wish - and this applies to all games, not just Skyrim - I do with developers would understand how frustrating it is for anything I can't jump over to be an impassible obstacle. A shoulder-high wall or step up a mountain is too high for me to jump up, yes, but it shouldn't be an insurmountable obstacle - can I not climb over such things? Not in almost any video game world I've ever come across. Anything too high to simply jump over might as well be a sheer, smooth 100 foot high wall.

Also, if you think navigating the mountains is a pain alone, wait until you get a follower. There will be all kinds of places you can reach that apparently they find unattainable. It's frustrating enough when you're going up a slope, but wait until you're going downhill. You'll step off a two foot high drop, and turn around to see your follower frantically searching for an alternate path that lets them avoid such a risky drop.

last time I checked you cannot climb up a vertical cliff without special equipment that they would not have in those times no.

seriously if we could simply walk up every mountain from any direction it would just be stupid.

The paths are there. Granted they can be hard to find but if it's a location it general has an accessible route to it.

Or you could ride up like it's no biggy http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Skyrim+Physics&view=detail&id=2ADF7350E018D398196AFB75F2D2CB0E0043400D&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR

i know there are paths, but they're hard to find sometimes. and some of the mountains are HUGE. if you start close to the path but dont see it and miss it, then by the time you circle all the way around 20-30 mins can have passed by, especially if fighting beasts. and i really hate the long mountain ranges where you need to travel all the way to one end and all the way along the top.

i dont mind mountains being big. in fact i like it. i just dont like it when i cant find the path and have to resort to throwing tantrums lol my character should be able to pull out mountaineering equipment and climb up any mountain lol

I usually am able to find shortcuts in climbing up the mountains, and I've made some interesting jumps to go around the sides of some. Sometimes, it's about finding the right amount of slope you can move up on, and then just spamming jump.

Beats the hell out of finding invisible walls everywhere in New Vegas.

Even in Skyrim GPS is [censored]

Seriously though finding your way is half the fun. I can't say I have had too much trouble getting anywhere though. You can see roads in the map if you look closely enough.

I just keep circling the mountain until I find where the slope is easy to climb. Most of the roads lead you to where you want to go.
(but where's the fun in that?)

i might try that. i am a mage but put my time into getting Destruction to 100. what school is it (Illuision? Alteration?) and what skill level do i need to be to be able to cast it? and where can i buy the spell? does it help you get over most obstacles? how high does it lift you? thanks.

You have to go to Morrowind to get it.

Anyway.. Yeah, usually I just spam the jump button and move my character left and right. I can get just about anywhere doing that, usually don't though (kinda seems cheap) unless I'm in a hurry.

trick is when you hit an incline thats too steep strafe back and forth while jumping and you will find a spot to get up it.

its the bloody magic marker system that never gives you any hint as to how youre SUPPOSED to get up somewhere. all you ever know is where it is, and in skyrim where half the locations are tucked away at the top of a mountian, that isnt nearly enough information. its always easier to just exploit the crazy-ass physics and jump like a madmen up 80 degree inclines than it is to use the intended path. tell me that isnt a broken navigation system :banghead: .
