Okay, what's the deal with Skyrim? Does it get better?

Okay, what is the deal with Skyrim? Does it get a lot better at a certain point? I have been playing for a few hours now and it seems like (compared to Oblivion) there are hardly any people in the towns I discovered. There are no discussions (by townspeople) going on in the background, no Guild buildings, I talk to people and I hardly get any quests. Oblivion had all these things. Skyrim towns seem small and boring by comparison. Granted I have only discovered one or two towns in Skyrim. Are the other towns bigger and more exciting?

When I travel by foot in Skyrim, I only see a few moose, elk, or deer here and there, and the occasional group of Giants and Mammoths, and then I find a bandit camp once in a while. This is all so different than Oblivion which had a large variety of creatures to fight and all kinds of dungeons.

Can someone please explain to me what's going on, and does the game get a lot better after a few more hours of exploring?

BTW, Skyrim does have absolutely awesome graphics!

Thanks.

Edit: Nevermind, I got further into Skyrim and it's awesome!! It is definitely an improvement over Oblivion, and Oblivion was an awesome game as well!!

You must be doing something wrong, because I got swamped with quests at some point. The cities are smaller than Oblivion, but that makes sense given Cyrodiil was the main province. If you want a big city try Solitude, I believe it's the largest.

I find every character I tak to trying to shove some generic quest down my throat. Mostly errand boy quests. They're overwhelming after awhile.

Well seeing as how the Fighters guild and Mages guild doesn't exist anymore, you're not going to find those. Just Jorvaskker (sp?) for the Companions in Whiterun and the College of Winterhold for the magically inclined.

Dunno about your other complaints though, never been an issue in my opinion. Towns may be smaller but there still plenty of pvssyr, quests and stuff to do.

Also, as you said, you're only a few hours in.

Towns are relatively small and straight forward. There is some variation here and there but for the most part they follow the same formula. There's the inn, check, pawn shop, check, alchemist, check, armorer, check, player house, check, ruler's building, check etc.

The main quest lines and guilds are noticeably shorter as well although there are quite a number of miscellaneous and "other" quests. If you are trying to draw your experience out I would recommend only doing one or two quests in any main chain at a time, and intersperse with random exploration and miscellaneous quests.

Okay, maybe there is some pvssyr in the towns, but there doesn't seem to be a lot to do in the towns (I have discovered so far) compared to Oblivion. I mean Oblivion even had the arena!

But as I said, I am only a few hours into Skyrim, so it might get a lot better. I hope so!

No - the whole province is empty with only 10 dungeons and 5 quests. Stop playing immediately and wait for Diablo 3.

Towns have less people but each person is a lot more fleshed out. It's nice to see more dialogue than just rumors, like oblivion.

I'd suggest closing the browser and playing more. Your experiences do not match my own in the slightest, even when I was only one or two hours in.

Try harder.

I know you are kidding... but I got a feeling a lot of people are going to be disappointed in Diablo 3 including the Diablo fans. I just think there are too many alternatives these days. I saw a vid and it looks like a 1990's game.

I feel some people are...

1) too quick to judge Skyrim or have made their mind up even before playing because of what they heard from other people.
2) want to speed level and skill up quickly as possible like in world of warcraft or another mmopg.
3) Make a mountain out of a mole hill about minor glitches and bugs.

It's a beautiful game despite it's flaws (perfection is a myth obviously), I've played 50 hours so far, level 41 and still have a quest log full to do and half the map to explore, plus there are already some outstanding mods to enhance the visuals and other bits.
