Crysis 2 is eating up alot of RAM !!!!! Help !

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:04 pm

Hi all , im new to playing Crysis 2 and though im loving it there is a slight issue. When i start the game ( either multiplayer or single ) it is fine but as time goes on my RAM gets less an less. It is getting to the point where the game is consuming upto 3Gbs of ram or more, i have 4Gb installed but it seems this game wants to hog all of it !!

It gets to a point where my system tells me i have to stop due to performance issues, ive never had a game that hogs this much resources ( particulary RAM ). My system is more than capable of handling this game and i know it is not how my pc is setup that is causing the issue, id just like to know if anyone else has had these experiences, and or if there is something i can do ?? I dont want to buy 8Gb's of RAM just to play one game without interuption ( but it is a nice excuse ;) )

Oh and i have installed the latest DX11 Pack

System > Win 7 64bit> Intel C2Q Q6600@ 2.75ghz > 4Gb Ram > HD5830 1Gb > Asus Mobo > 32gb SSD + Velociraptor HD

I have a similar setup. I don't have any issues with ram usage.

You know that Win7 caches ram for performance so even though it says you're using all the memory you have probably only 50% is in actual use. Use resource monitor as that displays what percentage of memory is in use/standy/free.

hi and welcome
think you must have other things running in the background if you are getting performance issue warnings.
ive got 4gb ram and am only using 32bit vista so can only see and use roughly 3.1gb ram and ive had no problems.

Thanks guys ! I have managed to sqeeze a bit more out of the system, i noticed that despite telling it not to, Steam had begun on start up. So i have now made sure that Steam no longer starts up automatically i have saved a few Mb's of ram. I also noted that since i did fresh install onto SSD i had no Paging file set, so i have set a page file to a different drive ( 4-6Gb should be enough lol ). With these few changes the game is consuming around 2Gbs now, leaving me with 1-1.1gbs of free ram. Despite these improvements i think im gonna have to get 8Gbs as i do want to use other programs while i play as i do with other games. Its no major issue as i said but it is a nice excuse to buy some new shiny bits for my pc :)

Hopefully this post might help someone else should they come across the same or similar issue :)

You can optimize, and reduce the RAM usage with the Advance Systemcare program...

They recommend 8GB of RAM.

They recommend 8GB of RAM.

If you have the DX11 patch installed- yes! But without the DX11 patch, 8 GB of RAM is not needed! 3 GB of RAM is enough...

Not according to OP. o.O

Why would you use 64bit if you only have 3gigs of ram o.O you need 4gigs + or its fairly meaningless. 64bit Win7 is more ram hungry because it can be, and to make use of all the extra ram people usually have. I usually have 3 gigs being used or cache'd at all times on Win7 64bit.
