Help! Random CTDs

My most recent game has just recently started crashing to the desktop every 3-5 minutes. It was stable for the first 20ish hours of play, and I haven't messed with any of my mods since then, so I'm not sure what's going on...any ideas?

I cannot see immediately that which is causing the CTDs. All I can think of is, try running BOSS and seeing if there are any warnings or bits of advice that might apply, and also running Mod Checker from Wrye Bash, to see if that has anything to "say" as well.

Also, several mods "need" updating ("need", because I am not sure how important said updates would be). For example: TIE (1.47) and All Natural (1.3.1). Is Harvest [Flora] actually at version 3.0.1? I know it will still show up as 3.0.0 even if it is up to date, which is why I ask at all - 3.0.0 is known to cause CTDs here and there.

Maybe try updating Wrye Bash to the latest SVN too ( http://oblivionworks.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/oblivionworks/ ) ... and what version of OBSE are you using? Oh, and what plugins (i.e., DLLs) are installed, that rely on it?


edit: Eek! Where is your Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Unofficial SI Patch and Unofficial Official Mods Patch (for Knights)?!

Ooh that's lots of questions. One more piece of (probably important) data that I just discovered: the CTDs are apparently not actually random. There was a random CTD in there that was made me miss the pattern in the data, but I just tried playing a bit more (including from an earlier save, in case something had gone wacky there), and it appears that the current crop of crashes all happen when I'm riding up the mountain to Kvatch on the path (while doing one of the Kvatch Reborn quests). So maybe it has something to do with that.

As far as the questions go...I rebuilt my bashed patch and re-ran BOSS first thing. Nothing weird popped up. I'm not actually sure how to run mod checker in Wrye Bash (I honestly have no idea how to use 80% of the features in that thing), so I couldn't say on that count. All the mods I'm using were the latest versions I could find as of about 2 weeks ago (I went through and checked them all)...I see that there's a new (apparently minor) update of TIE...not sure on Harvest. OBSE is release 20. OBSE DLLs are: ChangeConsoleKey, FastExit2, OBSE_Elys_NoFastTravel, OBSE_Kyoma_MenuQue, and SwitchNightEyeShaders. Finally, I don't have the unofficial patches installed because the very first time I tried to mod Oblivion I somehow managed to blow up my installation by (probably incorrectly) installing the unofficial patch and have been squeamish about trying it again ever since. I guess this might be a good time to try it though.

Get the UOPs for sure. With BAIN installations it is a snap. This may resolve it as that area is very prone to CTDs some of which can be avoided with the UOP as it addresses some things in that area with moded games.

Make sure you have Kvatch Rebuilt 2.0, as well. I am unsure which it is you have.

Either way, there are a number of mods that almost certainly need cleaning, with TES4Edit. Just something I forgot to mention before.

There is a thread in this forum containing a list of mods that require cleaning. Also, Wrye Bash and BOSS should inform you similarly.

edit: As will Mod Checker, which is accessed by its icon at the bottom of the main tab (probably next to "Help", which itself is represented by a dark blue circle with a question mark in it),
