Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:40 am

I have followed the instructions and put the right files into the oblivion folder but when i try and install mods which need it, it says its not installed. Any advice?

OBSE readme

IF YOU PURCHASED A RETAIL (NON-STEAM) VERSION OF OBLIVION:

1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_loader.exe to your Oblivion directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder, and should contain files called "Oblivion.exe" and "OblivionLauncher.exe".
2. Run oblivion by running obse_loader.exe from the Oblivion directory.

If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Oblivion normally, just update the shortcut to point to obse_loader.exe instead of oblivion.exe.

IF YOU ARE USING THE STEAM VERSION OF OBLIVION:

1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion".
2. Ensure you have enabled the Steam community in-game, or OBSE will fail to load. Go to Steam > Settings > In-Game and check the box marked "Enable Steam Community In-Game".
3. Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll. You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor.

Just follow these instructions for a correct installation. :)

I think I know what your problem is. It is mod installation with OBMM that fails, right? This is because the installation scripts of some mods check whether OBSE is present, and the way OBMM finds that, is by looking for "obse_loader.exe" in your Oblivion folder. And since the OBSE readme doesn't tells Steam users to install this, they get into a problem.

There's two solutions to this. Either edit the installation script (right-click on the omod and select "View Script", then find the lines at the start, that checks for OBSE and remove then, then close and answer yes to save changes), or copy "obse_loader.exe" into your Oblivion folder. I haven't tested the latter, but it has been reported to work, and only means that this will be an otherwise unused file in your Oblivion folder.

Being a [*yech*] Steam user myself I can confirm that the latter solution works like a charm.

Other Option: Use the latter solution + BAIN. That is what I use :hubbahubba:

I put that loader in the folder which allows me to install the mods but when is start Oblivion with steam it still comes up with the default menu with the play, uninstall buttons etc. Is this normal? Is it working?

Hope you didn't expect an animated gif of an OBSE guy dancing macarena

Not sure what is the folder you're talking about. To tell if OBSE is working check for the presence of the obse_steam_loader.log file in your \oblivion directory. You should have an obse.log as well.

No its just with the non steam version as soon as you hit the oblivion.exe you get a black obse loader command box, and then the game instantly loads. And that folder i was reffering to was the oblivion directory. I have a obse steam loader text file is that a log? it says: crc = A2408F04
dll = d:\games\steam\steamapps\common\oblivion\obse_1_2_416.dll

i will load the game later today after i have installed the rest of my mods and see what will happen.
