Fallout 2 sound issues

Post » Tue Oct 20, 2009 5:02 pm

I know this is the Fallout 3 forums but there's really nowhere else I can think of asking.

I bought the Fallout 1/2/Tactics White Label CD-ROM and installed Fallout 2 and for some reason, I have sound effects but zero music.

I know the games engine is very old and probably not compatible with new sound drivers etc but I figured I would ask to see if anyone found a solution..

I am using 5.1 surround sound and windows vista, tried playing around with it...no luck.

Don't worry, it will be moved to that section. :)

Hi.

It's not the sound drivers. That's just a problem with some copies of the game.

Because for some reason, there are actually TWO music folders in your Fallout directory, (Fallout 2\sound\music) and (Fallout 2\DATA\SOUND\MUSIC).

So you have check both folders and find the one that contains all the .ACM music files. Then you have to edit your fallout2.cfg file using notepad. Under the [sound] section, find the lines music_path1= and music_path2= and make sure they are directed to the correct folder that contains the music files.

For example, in most cases, the game's music files are kept in FALLOUT 2\DATA\SOUND\MUSIC

In the .cfg file set music paths to:

music_path1=data\sound\music\
music_path2=data\sound\music\

That should fix the problem unless the files are kept in the other folder.

Hope I explained it well enough. Post again if you have any problems.
