exploits, balance, and freedom/fun

i see people copmlain about lack of freedom, balance issues and exploits. but nobody seems to see how they are related.

you want more freedom...you get more balance issues/exloits...or in the very least it becomes harder to stop/find them all.

I was thinking...whats a "acceptable" point for this? a point wher eyou get maximum freedom without breaking your game...and realie...i was thinking about it wrong....its about what freedom allows fun and what freedom allows something less then fun.

for instance...the overly simplified, overly rewarding smithing...isnt really fun, there is little in reward other ten new armor which is handed out like candy. as such this isnt that fun.

spellmaking however...is LOTS of fun, even with making OP/rediculous spells its fun.

I think..in all honesty, where TES games are failing...is with focusing on balance over fun.

on the other hand there is also a difference between fun, and being given something for nearly free.

I think...and hear me out here. that the game sould re-implement secondary skills. but with a twist.

Make secondary skills not tied to your level, and have them "increase" thru intereactions with the world. lets take smithing for example. instead of having a perk tree that gives you the pieces. how about you have to find/purchase said schematics. things like daedric your probably not gonna find in whiterun stores for example....you might find pieces of schematics in daedric dungeons. This would allow added incentive to explore (a main theme to a TES game) and allow a more immersive, organic skill growth. by organic skill growth i mean your not gonna have a level 2 in full daedric unless that level 2 braved some daedric ruins.

similar systems can be implemented for alchemy and enchanting.

then you bring back spellmaking and a lot of the old useless spells. people say levitate broke dungeons in morrowind...well...its easily solvable in todays standards...no reason not to have it.

imagine the possibilities of spellmaking with dualcasting...and lets provide some reaal physics stuff here.

combine fireball with icebolt...you get a jet of superheated steam!

things like that.

ok...my point is, focus on fun first, balance second. because I think thats where TES shines.
