Arch-Mage of the College

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:38 am

Hey folks. Just finished the College of Winterhold questline and I must say, it was fun. A tad bit short, but fun.
So I got the Arch-Mage Robes as a reward, but... It is incredibly ugly! Is it only me who thought this?

Sure, it got some cool patterns and it got fur so you won't freeze, but the hood is gruesome. And then the problem is, the robes and hood are in one piece!
Had it been in two pieces I'd have no problem at all. But as many others, I like to see my characters hair and such.

It also looks horrible together with the probably best magical headwear in the game, Morokei. I've never experienced the thing with my head disappearing from using both, but it clips like hell and look dumb.

I don't mean this as whining, but seriously? Why in two pieces?
Looks like I'll have to wait for the CK to make them seperate and hope someone retexture Morokei to at least match in colour.

Spoiler? Who here wouldn't think you became the Arch-Mage? In all "guilds" in all TES games you end up as the leader of the thing.
But anyway, just nevermind of this. I found a fitting texture replacer on Nexus.

Eh, to each his own. I personally like the Archmage robes. Because I can wear a mask or a Circlet and also have a hood. And I usually play in first person view anyway so it doesn't really matter what I look like.

They're... okay. Not hideous, not grand, just... decent.

I do wish they were pretty.

I think it makes sense to not have any pretty/frilly/silky robes in Skyrim, because they'd just get ruined with all the bad weather, rough traveling and constant fighting. Gotta have tough, durable, warm comfortable clothes...

Also this isn't some Empire spanning controlling authority on the practice of magic. It is just a provincial college - the only one in Skyrim and one with a long history sure but it's not an anologous entity. Also, the previous Archmage wasn't the greatest of wizards in the group as much as he was a beaurocrat . The other mages sort of mention that the position is more of a beurocratic/administrative role than anything as grand as it sounds (when talking about the Archmage before you complete the quests.)

I wish they had an AC.

Why don't robes have an AC? I'd get the same effects running around naked, with an enchanted ring equipped.

Morrowind had an Unarmored skill, so like armor skills the higher it got the more protection you got from clothing. The more you got hit while wearing clothes the more that skill improved. They obviously got rid of it so... robes with armor rating wouldn't make much sense.

Robes are arguably useless, with Light Armor being much better. The only thing clothing gives is the +Magicka Regen, which is basically useless (+2% in-combat regen? big whoop). Still, I don't much like my mage running around in butt ugly Dragonscale or Glass armor. Wish there were better looking robes.

It's okay, I think. But the mage equipments/armor that I like are the one from Thalmor mages. The one that you see from Ancano. He looks wicked.

I hear ya.

I really wish that robes could either be given the same classification as light armor, or we could get the Unarmored skill returned in some kinda DLC.

I really love the way that some robes look....but looks mean nothing when it's the same as wearing toilet paper and string.

Yea. Morrowind and Oblivion allowed for more aesthetic gaming. My master thief fought in a rice hat and medium-leveled armor in Morrowind. In Oblivion, I could wear whatever the hell I wanted.

But for Skyrim, that will be the end of you.

Thankfully, the actual -armors- don't look horrible. But robes, while have good stats, still do nothing for you.

Yeah, they look cool. I can agree on that, and I don't want any fancy robes with glitter. I just want them to be in two pieces.
