CS Crashing When Trying To Launch Through Wrye Bash

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:02 pm

As the title says...some help please. If I run it through the original .exe it works OK (expect I can't save any edited scripts) but when trying it through Wrye it won't even start.

Are you running mods that require OBSE?

Edit: Wyre Bash is great and all but won't help for [censored] if you have a mod that needs to be run through the OBSE launcher. Wyre Bash has an Oblivion + OBSE launcher, but I would simply recomend using a shortcut of the OBSE launcher found in your Oblivion.exe directory.

Sorry to bump this so early but I really need some help on this, Wrye, OBSE launcher and even command prompt it just keeps crashing as soon as it loads up...thing is if I run the CS on it own without OBSE it works (except some things wont save) and on top of that it use to work before so way it's all playing up now I don't know.

Quite in the same boat here, it used to work before and now I can't for the life of me figure out what the heck is going on here. The CS 1.0 works just fine but I can't run the newer version, so no CSE for me.

Did you change anything in your setup? On my end it happened out of nowhere without changing a single bit other than updating WB, which in itself can't be the culprit..

What's the latest Wrye update?? And does it launch with OBSE manually, i.e. not via Wrye Bash?

I'm on the latest SVN, the CS doesn't even launch with OBSE through the command prompt, it crashes instantly. The non-OBSE version runs fine but I can't shut it down other than killing the process via task manager, so there's definitely something wrong with the CS in itself. I'm going to reinstall everything CS related and see how it goes..

Nope no change here ether just WB update same as you, 1.0 I didn't bother try as I just didn't expect it to work with the latest version of Oblivion anyway

Strange. I thought apparently random behavior was limited to the Oblivion engine, now it's spread to the CS. Let us know if reinstalling fixes this.

Hey, it worked! No idea what happened though.

@crash_oxide:

- remove any CSE files as listed in the CSE Readme:

Data\OBSE\Plugins\Construction Set Extender.dll
Data\OBSE\Plugins\Construction Set Extender.ini
Data\OBSE\Plugins\ComponentDLLs\CSE
..\DevComponents.DotNetBar2.dll
..\GlobalInputMonitor.dll
..\lame.exe

Also make sure to remove the Construction Set Extender.ini file from the OBSE plugins directory

- uninstall everything CS related
- remove the ConstructionSet.ini from the mygames\Oblivion directory
- just to be sure, run the http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER registry cleaning tool
- install the CS 1.0
- rename TESConstructionSet.exe as TESConstructionSetOld.exe
- uninstall the CS 1.0
- install the CS 1.2
- make sure you can run and close the CS properly
- copy everything CSE related into the game folder as listed above
- change the bAllowMultipleEditors entry from 0 to 1 into the ConstructionSet.ini file
- run obse_loader -editor from the command prompt
- wait a bit and the CSE console should show up
- close the CSE
- you should now be able to run it through WB

This worked for me.

Have you looked at the obse_editor.log for some indication of issues?
There was an issue (not sure if it's cleared) when there are too many OBSE plugins. Move all your plugins out of the OBSE folder except for the construction set extender.dll, see if that helps.

I wonder if you have used Clean Data command. In the svn version of Wrye Bash the behaviour of Clean Data has been changed recently. Prior to that, the Clean Data command in the Installers tab menu could clean out some files which had not been installed with Wrye Bash, including some CSE files.

If that is the case, you dont need to re-install, check ~Oblivion mods\Bash mod data\Backups\ and see if there are any files which have been squirreled away by clean data, and just put them back where they should be. It wont be a problem in 295, I have used the command a few times in the svn versions since the exclusion list has been updated.

Done that a few days ago but I don't remember having seen any CSE files in the Backups directory. At any rate it stopped working half an hour ago.. anyway everything's back to normal again now.

Crash_oxide, any luck with this?

YES!! I got it working although reinstalling it didn't change anything and running it through command prompt it was still crashing as before...turns out that Hanaisse info about the obse plugin is what did the trick, removed all except Construction Set Extender.dll and Construction Set Extender.ini along with the ComponentDLLs folder and it loaded all nicely without crashing.

Only annoying thing about it is though is I'ma have to move the plugins each and every time I want to run the CS...but at least it working now :celebration:
