Crysis2+DX11+Hi-Res+MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II/OC --FIXED!

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:28 am

I, like many others have installed all the latest Crysis 2 updates .. 1.9, DX11, Hi-Res ---- to the max ... then my trouble started. I would play the game and after only minutes I'd get a black screen and could only hear the game. No control over the system -- would have to resort to powering off the system. Well, no more.

I am running 2 MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II/OC cards in SLI mode and it works great.

The FIX you ask? I went to msi*dot*com and looked up my video card and, eureka, I find there's an update for the bios of the cards. I downloaded the MSI Live Update 5 application and very, very carefully allowed the program to update the BIOS on both my cards ... was version 103 ... now 104.

At least in my case the BIOS update completely fixed the Crysis 2 + all-the-updates problems. Perhaps other '500 series cards have similar updates as well ...... worth checking your manufacturer's web pages.

Just for the record, I do not overclock -- my entire system is running whatever default speeds the manufacturer set them at. Heck, it's all blazing fast and I don't want shortened lifespan or instability.

Another observation ... in MSI Afterburner all the settings before the BIOS update appear to be exactly the same as after the BIOS update ...... so, I have no clue what they fixed. And, yeah, it's an overclocking tool -- I just look .

Good luck.

They fixed an undervolt issue on quite a few of the 580s that makes problems appear when you stress the card out eg DX11 ultra.

Yep .. and it's interesting that MSI Afterburner doesn't reflect that voltage has been increased. Hummm?

I played about three hours last night and it was completely rock solid. Love it when a manufacturer recognizes a correction is in order and makes a fix .. BIOS for the video cards, in this case. Bit dismayed that since I'd registered my cards that I wasn't sent any email letting me know there was a BIOS upgrade. But, then again, if I didn't have to run around checking updates all over the place what would I be doing with my time?

Answer: Crysis 2 ............. until I die or someone better comes along (thank ya Star Ship Troopers) ... ahahahahahah
